I just want to be able to go out and watch a movie sometimes with my husband. Our toddler goes to bed around 7-7:30. What would be an appropriate amount to pay a babysitter to stay at our house with our daughter while we go see a movie/dinner for a few hours? I was thinking $50. Is that too little an amount? Should I pay more?

that is probably to much if your going to have a local teen do it. Probably about $30 in my area for a teen babysitter to just sit in your home and eat your food to watch your tv.

$50 is generous.

5 to 7 dollars an hour should be plenty. If the sitter does a good job (keeps the home clean, no visitors) you may want to buy an inexpensive gift every now and then or give a tip.

$10/hour is the going rate in our area. So yeah, $50 is about right by the time you have dinner, drive, see the movie, etc.

What?! $50 to watch a movie? I used to get paid $5/hour and that wasn’t that long ago (maybe 8 years ago.) Paying a teenager $7/hour is more than enough. They don’t have bills. They don’t pay taxes on it. That’s plenty!!

I was thinking 20 bucks. We’re in a recession.
