I grossed 1,695.00 last summer from a month long nanny job. I never paid taxes because I assumed the mother would send me a W-2. She never sent me one and she told me she claimed me under daycare expenses and I should just file that income as additional income. Doesn’t this make me responsible for all taxes? I realize I hit the bar for the $1600 amount and that means we split the medicare and social security. I was her employee, not an independent contractor. Do I need to file an SS-8 form by itself, then file a 1040 and 8919 form together?? I want to fully pay the taxes on this money, but I don’t want to pick up her medicare ans SS slack.

You really only have one solution–SS-8, 1040 with 8919 and pay the part for you.

file your income taxes by claiming the income on schedule C and then that income is reported on form 1040. You will also have to calculate the social security. That is done on form SE. You will owe about 15%. The income can also be offset by any expenses you had. ie. cell phone charges…didn’t the parent need to get ahold of you by phone? If it is a legit expense then you won’t be liable for the income. All of the expenses are written off on the Schedule C
