Women exert extra effort to look their best. It has even caused some misunderstanding for most couples because the wives take a long time to prepare. They make sure that everything they wear looks perfect.

If you are wondering where all the time went, here is a tip.

Whenever you go out, women look into several things. Before they get ready, they make sure that everything at home is organized. If they have children, they make sure that the nanny is there and knows what she has to do. She shows her around the house and gives instructions. She will then leave her mobile number in case of emergency.

After settling everything, she will attend to her things. She will prepare what she needs to have in her purse like wallet, make up, mirror and other necessities. She can also do this after she showers.

Speaking of shower, how long does your partner takes to finish. Normally, women take a very long time to shower or bath. It can last up to two hours, unless they are in a hurry, of course. What do they do while taking a bath or shower? Women love to spend more time cleaning themselves. For them, this is their escape from their busy daily routine. For most, this is the only time they have to be alone.

Women also love to take their time when they are in the bathroom. They want to make sure that they do all their beauty routine. After their time at the shower or bathtub, they will head to their dresser. They will do their hair. If they want it to be perfectly straight, they will grab the ceramic hair straighteners. If they want to make **** curls, they will use the curling irons.

Doing their hair is a tedious process. They have to blow-dry it first, apply the necessary cream, and style it. That excludes the time they spent thinking what hairstyle to wear during that day.

Women style their hair before or after they look into their closet. If your wife has a large closet, then expect to wait for a longer time for her to pick the right dress. You will see her trying to pick a dress after dress. Although the first dress looks good on them, they will try another and another until they make up their minds.

When done with all these, they will do their make up, get dress, and check on what they need to check again. This includes the things at home, the nanny, the kids, and the like. After that, they will check their purse. When everything is intact, you can leave and head to wherever you are going.

Now you know what your wife is doing with all those time. Do not worry; she knows that you will be where you want to be on time. Let her enjoy her time in the bathroom. Give her the chance to use the ceramic hair straighteners she bought months ago. Help her find the perfect dress and wait for her as she finishes her makeup. She deserves to take her time after juggling all the responsibilities she needs to do.

The Oxford PhD.

A longtime client asked us to check an existing young employee who was being promoted and transferred within the company.  This employee was required to update her vital info on an application form. On the form she indicated that she had a PhD in international human resources from Oxford University – THE Oxford in the UK. The employer thought that it was odd that she didn’t mention that when she applied for a $7 an hour ad sales job two years earlier.  The client asked us to check it out.

They faxed over the info and I took a look at the application and within a few seconds I knew that the applicant was lying.  I called the client and told them that I would save them the price of an international check, “I know she’s lying.” I said.  “How can you tell?” they asked. “Because she said that she attended Lady Margaret Hall (college) at Oxford and she spelled Margaret wrong. Anyone with a PhD from Oxford wouldn’t spell the name of the college wrong. Of course we went through the motions and called Oxford and we found that LMH doesn’t offer human resource degrees.  She should have picked another college at Oxford to lie about.  Think about this one.  She already had the promotion, and she still lied.

The Nanny From Uganda

This one happened just recently.  A woman from New York called and asked if we could do a criminal check on a man from Uganda that she was planning to hire as a nanny for her infant child. I asked her, “Why?”  She asked me what I meant by why?  I told her, “Why on earth would you hire someone from a place where there is no rule of law, where any criminal check I could obtain is not worth the paper it is written on and where this person is from a region of the world that is the home of AIDS. “What are you thinking?” I asked. I was being polite.  I really thought she was out of her mind.  Now, I know that what I said was not politically correct, but it is the truth.  She said, “Maybe you’re right.”  I got the feeling that I was the first sensible, practical person that she had spoken to on the subject. I should have charged her for the avuncular advice instead of the criminal check, but hey, I’m a nice guy.

The Pool Digger

A fellow from a local pool company ordered a check on an employee that he had already hired and put to work digging pools with a backhoe.  At the time, our office was in Temecula, California and the new employee was digging pools in Palm Springs which is about two hours away. It took a couple of days to get the hand searched records from Utah where the worker had previously lived and to our astonishment the employee was wanted for escaping from jail in a rural county in Utah. He was also a registered *** offender in Utah.  It is important to note that this happened in 1995 before we were using the internet.  Everything was done by phone and fax and was much slower.

I called the client right away with the big news. Now normally, we provide the information and it is the client’s responsibility to act on it. In this case I offered to figure out what the client should do with this “dangerous” employee. I asked an assistant of mine if her husband, who was a Riverside County Deputy Sheriff, could drive to Palm Springs and arrest him. We found out that it doesn’t work that way. They have to serve a warrant from the jurisdiction in Utah and that could take days.  I thought the deputy could get an “extra credit” or something for arresting a wanted bad guy.  I guess I watch too much TV.

I called the District Attorney’s office of that county in Utah, but there was no answer to my call.  I then called the Sheriff’s office in that county and talked to the Sheriff.  (Think Andy of Mayberry here.)  I told him that I called the DA’s office, but there was no answer.  He told me that they were all out fishing.  I asked him if he knew the pool digger and he said that he did.  I said, “Well come and get him. He’s in Palm Springs.  I’ll get the address for you.”  To which he replied, “We don’t want him.  If he’s in Palm Springs he ain’t bothering nobody here.” “You can’t do that,” I said.  “The hell I can’t,” he said.  He then proceeded to tell me that they were a small county and that the extradition would take a mountain of paperwork, (which he was not inclined to do) then they would have to send someone to California to pick-up the prisoner, haul his sorry a** back to Utah then the county would have to pay to keep him in jail for the next few years. In fact, he was doing the county a big favor and saving them a bundle of money by not getting him.

Meanwhile my client, the pool company, is in a panic. Remember that this is before we were on the internet.  I got directory assistance and found the Utah County’s only bail bondsman.  I called and asked if they were looking for this pool digger. They were. The bail bondsman in Utah asked for the address where the pool digger was working and said, “We’ll have some guys pick him up in about 2 hours.”

I can’t tell you how many times that the story above has been instructional to me.  It is the epitome of government vs. private sector.  Government moves glacially slow at great expense with mountains of paperwork, while the private sector gets the job done better, faster, cheaper.

The Wanted Murderer

We did a criminal check for a client that hired dozens of people per month. The client operated a call center and we quickly learned that for some reason telemarketers have a disproportionate amount of criminal records compared to the general population.  Imagine that.

The record came back for an applicant that we were checking and low and behold, the person was wanted in Los Angeles County for murder.  I called the client right away to inform her.  She said that it was odd that I called at that moment because he, the applicant, was waiting in the outer office to see her. She was truly afraid.

I called the police in her town and explained the situation and they told me to tell the client that it would take a while to process the warrant; that she should stall him and let him go home, thinking that he would start work in a couple of days and that they would arrest him at home over the weekend so as not to put anyone in danger at the client’s office. By the way; the police had to ask me for the man’s address so they could go and arrest him.

The Ballistic Nurse

This happened on the day of the bloody glove in the OJ Simpson trial, June 15, 1995, a day I will always remember.

We were background checking a nurse for a hospital in Southern California.  The LA County Superior Court sent us wrong criminal information on the criminal search. They did a name search, but did not cross check date of birth or Social Security number and reported that the subject of our criminal check was a drug dealing ********** who had several arrests and convictions. We subsequently reported this wrong information to our client.  (FYI: this is the only documented case of my company making a mistake in a criminal history report.)  When the nurse applicant had her offer of employment rescinded she went ballistic. The client later told me that he was screaming, ranting, raving, cursing and threatening lawsuits on everyone.

We immediately reinvestigated the records and quickly found the error. Still, even though we were wrong, the client did not want to hire the nurse.  She had shown her “true colors” by ranting and raving and screaming. She had been escorted out by security and in no uncertain terms, they didn’t want her in the hospital ever again.  The client asked us if there wasn’t something else we could find to give them legal terms to rescind her offer of employment.  We dug a little deeper and found that she had in fact stretched her record of employment to cover a 90 day employment at another hospital where she was fired.  Because she lied by omission on her application the offer was rescinded.

Timbuktu

Let me say first off that I have always wanted to do a background check in Timbuktu just so that I could truthfully say that we have checked out people everywhere from Temecula to Timbuktu. This happened just a couple of weeks ago and prompted the writing of this article. A gentleman emailed and asked if we could check out a person and his company in Timbuktu, Mali in West Africa.

If you are not familiar with Timbuktu, it is a real place on the south west edge of the Sahara Desert and surely one of the most remote places on earth.  Think French Foreign Legion desert outpost with camel caravans passing through. I read somewhere that it recently boasted of 400 telephones and 2 internet lines. Wow!

I told the client that since we have never done anything in Mali that I would have to check and see what is available and how long it would take, etc.  I am one of the few experts in the USA on international background checks.  People contact me all the time asking how to get records from far away places.  When, even I can’t figure out how to get records from somewhere I call the local US embassy in that country. We can usually figure things out from there.

I can’t say anything more specific about this case, but I can say that we were surprisingly able to get quality information quickly and uncovered another West African internet scam involving gold dust and probably saved the client tens of thousands of dollars.

The Good Looker

One client ordered a criminal and a credit check on each new employee.  We did a check on a new employee and about a month later that employee called me and said that she was the new Human Resources Director.  She was going over the policies and procedures and wanted to ask me about background checks.  She asked me if doing a credit report was worth the cost and “What can you really tell from a credit report?”

I said, “Let me tell you about you.”  I was doing this purely by memory from her report a month earlier.  I said, “You are single, approximately 31 years old, you are a college graduate, you are from New England originally, you live in a rented condo, you drive a modestly priced Toyota or Nissan and you are single and good looking.”  She said, “Now wait a minute how can you tell all that?  I explained that most of it was educated guessing on my part, but I saw no spouse listed, I saw student loans, a SS# that started with 1, auto loans and  the numbers on her address told me that she lived in a condo.  “What about the good looking part?” she asked, “There’s no way you can tell that from a credit report.”  I said that I noticed that she had a credit card with a $1000 line of credit at Victoria’s Secret and I know that, as a rule, ugly women don’t shop there; therefore you must be good looking.

Being that your babysitter will be taking care of your young loved ones, you want to be careful and put a lot of thought into making a decision of which babysitter is best for you. Realize, however, that due to the importance of your children’s security, this is not a time that you are really trying to cut costs. The rates that you will be charged are going to differ on the type of babysitter you decide to go with. The two types of babysitters are generally going to fall into one of two categories: a personal acquaintance/friend and a professional agency.

Hiring a babysitter from an agency will be more expensive than hiring an acquaintance or friend. With an agency, you will have to pay them a fee on top of the babysitter’s hourly rate. However, that fee should guarantee you that your loved ones will be in good hands. Being that the agency is correctly run, you should be provided with the babysitter’s credentials, and the agency should know the babysitter very well. This will help give you peace of mind while you are out, away from your loved ones. Another advantage of hiring a babysitter from an agency is that they can generally adhere to all of your needs, in terms of having a babysitter ready in very short notice or in being able to have someone take care of you kids over longer periods of time.

Now in determining the rate per hour that you pay your babysitter will likely depend on how many children she will be watching each time. The more children being watched would naturally mean a higher hourly rate. A very common hourly rate for a baby sitter for one child is twelve dollars. Most babysitters will charge anywhere from three to five dollars more per additional child. If you use the same babysitter all the time and things have been working out smoothly, you might be able to negotiate a slightly lower rate being that you are a source of regular income for that person. It can’t hurt to negotiate once a relationship has been built, but don’t try and take advantage of that person, or you might lose your regular babysitter.

If you have a child or children that require special needs or that tend to be extremely unruly, then there will likely be a surcharge to the average hourly rate, as it is going to take the babysitter more effort to complete her duties. The same also goes for a babysitter who you require to do more than just watch the children, such as preparing dinner for them or picking them up from school. On the other hand, if you only require that your babysitter read to your child and then put him/her to bed at a specific hour, then your rates are sure to be lower.

In terms of paying your babysitter, that is something that can be worked out between the two of you to find the most suitable terms of payment. Often, however, the babysitter will allow you to pay a slightly lower rate if you pay in cash. So you may want to exploit this option.

At the end of the day, you just want to make sure that you and your babysitter are happy with the arrangements. Your babysitter is taking care of your precious ones, and that is not something you are looking to get a big discount on. More importantly, you just want to make sure that your children are safe while you are away.

Who is Looking After your Baby?

Once we get over the excitement of knowing a baby is on the way, we have to come down to earth and start making preparations for baby’s arrival. Most of us will have a checklist of to do things such as shopping for baby’s essentials etc. I think that one of the most important aspects of preparation is deciding who is going to look after your newborn baby. What are your options?

Looking after your baby yourself

Some questions you and your husband may have to consider

• Can you make do with one income?

• Can you work part time or work from home?

• Do you have the mindset to spend 24 hours a day with your baby?

• If this is your first baby, do you have any support with caring for your baby? This includes physical, emotional and psychological support as it is not always easy looking after a newborn baby.

If you answer yes to all the questions above than you will make a good stay at home mum. If you cannot answer yes to all the questions or after a few months of staying at home with your baby, you decide that you want to go back to work, than you will have to consider other child care options for your baby. The options for child care facilities are slightly different in Asian countries compared to Western societies

Sending baby to grandma

This may be ideal if grandma lives nearby. However many grandmas live in another town or state which means that you will only get to see your baby once a week at weekends or an even longer period if the distance is too far. I have seen many cases where the baby does not know his parents at age 1 year. If grandma is a bit elderly she may not know how to properly stimulate your baby and there is also the possibility that grandma will spoil your baby. I have children who come to my centre after spending months with grand parents who carry them all day long that they do not know how to sit or crawl at the age of 10 months. They are very clinging and refuse to be left alone except when they are sleeping. If your parents are looking after your baby do make sure that you encourage them to allow your baby to learn normal developmental activities like rolling over, crawling and exploring their environment.

Having a care giver in your home

For many parents this arrangement is very appealing as your baby will be in familiar and comfortable surroundings. You do not have to spend time sending and collecting your baby from an outside caretaker. Your baby gets one on one care and would be exposed to fewer people and germs. Your care giver may do some light housework while your baby naps which would allow you to spend quality time with your baby when you come home. In the past, it was easy to get a local mature lady to live-in as amahs but nowadays it is getting more and more difficult to do this and it is quite expensive to employ local amahs or nannies. Nowadays, many parents in Malaysia and Singapore employ foreign maids to care for their baby. I have a suspicious nature when it comes to leaving newborn babies with foreign maids who may decide to run away leaving your baby at home alone, or worse, taking your baby with her. In addition, most foreign maids do not have any experience in looking after a newborn baby. Do remember that the first 2 years of your baby’s life is eventful as he will be more prone to fever associated with immunizations, teething etc. This is also a time when he is learning a lot and if the maid cannot provide the right stimulation your baby’s development will be slightly slower.

Day care in someone else’s home

Many first-time parents choose this type of care because they believe it’s important for their child to interact with other children as well as at least one adult during the day. Normally, this type of care is provided by housewives (baby sitter) who have had children of their own so they have experience with caring for small children. Some provide a one on one care but the majority will have at least another 3 to 4 children to care for. If you are lucky you may find a fantastic baby sitter who will provide your baby with the best physical and developmental care. I find the vast majority of these baby sitters provide quite good physical care but do not know how to provide adequate stimulation for the baby’s development. Most of the babies end up watching Chinese soap operas all the time. If you send your baby to this type of baby sitters please make sure that you also provide some developmental media for your baby such as educational toys, books with pictures and educational videos so that he learns through music and singing. Some parents will only take the baby home on weekends and I personally disagree with this arrangement as I feel very strongly that you must spend some quality time every night in your own home with your baby. This will help your baby to build trust in you and for you to know everything about your own baby.

A day care center

Choosing the proper day care center for your child should be a carefully thought out and researched process. It is important to choose a center that helps your child grow and develop his skills while also having fun. There are several advantages to having your child in a daycare center. Good centers have a mix of activities that will teach different skills. Activities that lead to creativity, storytelling, dancing and singing all help your baby learn instead of just playing all day. Children also get to socialize and interact with other children which they wouldn’t get to do if they were at home with a nanny.

A few disadvantages are that the children do not have the one-on-one attention they would get if they were at home with a parent or nanny. The children are also more likely to be exposed to more germs from all the other children. The upside of this is that the children start to build their immunity earlier. While centers are usually very structured and have clear rules for parents to follow such as those regarding picking up your child, a disadvantage is that you could incur fees for picking up your child late, having to find a place for your child on holidays, or finding someone to care for your child if he or she becomes sick from a highly contagious illness and is sent home by the center.

As an operator of a child day care centre I recommend that you MUST check out the centre before you send your baby there.

• Check out the centre when there are other children around. This will let you see how the children are looked after and whether they are happy, outgoing or shy and withdrawn and how they respond to the staff members.

• Take your baby to the centre because babies are very sensitive to their environment. If you enter and your baby starts crying then the place is not for your baby. Let your baby spend some time looking around and see how he reacts to the staff members and the environment.

• Check whether it is a safe clean facility. All the areas should be clean, well lit and ventilated. There should be policies on staff hygiene and cleanliness such as hand washing, cleanliness of feeding equipment and disposal of rubbish.

• Does the centre have an open door policy i.e. do they allow unannounced visits? If they do not have this policy, they may be hiding something.

• What is the staff to baby ratio? Newborn babies require extra time compared to bigger children so the ideal ratio is 1 to 3.

• Does the centre have any daily programme to help your baby’s development?

• Any other personal questions of your own.

Whichever option you choose, the most important thing to consider is the safety, wellness and happiness of your baby and the least stress to you the parents

About the Author:

There are a huge number of people who are into babysitting services either because they adore kids or they just want to earn some money. Some people benefit from this babysitting service as it is supposed to be the gateway to being a nanny, which is considered to be a very profitable position. Nannies that have potential are likely to earn a big sum and they are continuously in demand.

Regardless of the financial position of any family, trouble with taking care of a child can put pressure and anxiety to a huge number of households. All the families would want to have an excellent babysitting service but only some can. Almost everyone faces trouble with babysitting service at some point or the other.

Reason for High Income

The chief executive of companies has high income as they undergo a lot of stress in the office. If they can find a reasonable and trustworthy nanny then will have some load off their minds. It may so happen that an urgent business trip crops up and it is a good feeling to know that you have a good nanny to take care of your children. As such, they don’t mind paying much for a babysitting service.

Qualifications

If you have a degree in child psychology, nursing or education then your scope for earning huge income is more. Actually, you will find that most of the babysitting service agencies are hiring nannies, which specialize in nursing, education and child psychology, from colleges. Majority of the nanny’s salary begins with thirty thousand dollars and this amount can double after working for a few years.

Individual Preference

There are certain people who prefer their nannies to have some training as well as practice. Likewise, there are also people who do not require these qualifications. Training is offered by certain babysitting service agencies.

Being Reasonable is Invaluable

It is remarkable to see your nanny showing initiative. If the nanny is willing to take the automobile for service or keep everything at home in order or pick up dry cleaning, then she is suppose to be a preferred nanny. There are also various talents, which are preferred, are having know-how on the most recent childcare, knowledge of CPR and swimming.

It is the job of the nanny to make the family’s life easy and as such she is expected to work for a long time, about sixty hours in a week. She is also expected to do the job during the holidays.

Other Advantages

Houses where the nannies usually work are often lovely.

You can expect good standard of food.

You can expect a car from your employer, as it may be a portion of the work package.

The income is usually exempted from tax.

Expect trips abroad. Even though you will be working, you can expect high-class trips abroad, posh restaurants, amazing shopping spree, amusement parks, museums, etc.

Getting a live in Nanny is widely considered to be the more efficient option than the live out Nanny.  First of all, it depends on your needs.  If you are looking for a full time Nanny that can provide the most extensive service, then a live in Nanny might be the option that is best for you.  A live in Nanny can provide service around the clock as the need arises.  Of course, it would depend on your agreement.  But generally speaking, you should be able to depend on a live in Nanny if there is a need.

What are the things that you should consider if you’re going to hire a live in Nanny?  Here are some important points to ponder on:

Do you really need a live in Nanny?

Ask yourself why you are requiring a live in Nanny.  Although anyone could use a live in Nanny, there are some parents who can take care of their children 24/7 and are willing to do the chores surrounding it.

Double your efforts in the hiring process.

Because your live in Nanny will be with your children almost 24/7, it is important that you can trust your Nanny.  But you don’t have to worry because there are several resources that you can use to help you with this process.  You can use online sites to find nanny jobs in Miami, for instance like www.nannytoyou.com to help you search for qualified candidates and even provide you with tips and articles on how to do it.  Done correctly, you wouldn’t feel that you’re putting in double the time and effort.  You’ll feel that you’re just making sure.

What do you need her to do?

You have to know for sure what you’re going to require your Nanny to do.  It’s a given that she would also take care of the chores related to the children.  If she’s going to live in with you, she can also do additional chores.  You have to know this because you have to let your Nanny know as well so she knows what to expect and if she’s ok with it.

Can you afford it?

A live in Nanny would require a weekly salary of up to $800 depending on her experience and qualifications.  Although this might seem expensive, it can be more efficient in the long run.

Her living conditions.

It goes without saying that your Nanny will require her own room.  As long as it’s livable and it has the necessary amenities for a comfortable sleep and she’s ok with it, it should be fine.  Your family should also provide for her basic needs like food.  This shouldn’t be an issue since nannies usually eat what the family eats.  But if she has certain needs or restrictions, you have to discuss that with her.

Additional benefits.

State and federal laws may require you to provide additional benefits for your live in Nanny.  Please check with the necessary authorities for this information.

There are certainly a lot of things to consider.  You’re probably wondering if it’s worth it.  You can answer that question by checking out the benefits:

A presence in cases of emergency.

You don’t need to run from the office if your child paged you 911.  You can be sure that someone is there to take care of it.

Help around the house.

Depending on your agreement, you can save by having a live in Nanny helping around the house with the chores.

A full time Nanny.

A live in Nanny is a full time Nanny so you get the benefits of one.

Your children are getting the care that they need.

You have someone taking care of your children’s needs from the time they wake up until they wake up again.  You don’t have to worry about taking your kids to school and picking them up.  You also don’t have to worry about making sure that they are clean and well-fed.  You are sure that your children are taken care of.

A live in Nanny can be a wonderful part of your family.  They can be there until your children grow up, and they can help you in that process.

Native Speakers for Teaching Chinese

On method for those households that don’t have a native speaker is hiring of a nanny who speaks Chinese. The NY Times had an article noting the increase in au pairs from China. It is also possible to arrange play dates with other children who are learning Chinese as well as finding a Chinese speaking babysitter. Local universities will often have spouses of Chinese working on Masters and PhD’s who are looking for extra income. Another option is finding a local nanny, and there are a number around. If you are in public service, please remember Zoe Baird on the requirements for legally hiring a nanny. Truth to be told, there is a large population of people in the US from China who don’t have papers who work as nannies, so be careful. Nannies are also taking care of your children, so picking the right person is extremely important, especially if they live with you. Friends of ours have gone through multiple nannies and it was not a good experience.

Online Programs for Teaching Chinese

There are also programs to expose Children to Chinese at a young age. I am not aware of any that are online for English speakers at this time. There are online programs for adults learning Chinese as well as native speakers.

Private Chinese Schools

Traditionally non-public Chinese Schools in the US start teaching children when they are old to sit still and copy characters. Most schools are still using traditional teaching rote teaching methods still used in Taiwan and China. For the most part with children in the US, it does not work due to culture classes. There is a huge amount of independence in children in the US and using boring teaching methods that do not capture the interest of the child so they want to go to school without a lot of parental pushing will end up in failure. With the child being forced to go to school and often treating it as just babysitting, and not learning Chinese.

An alternative is finding a school that uses more of a Montessori Method or what is used in ESL where there is a lot of conversation. I was pleasantly surprised by my daughter’s public school language teacher who spoke of using this method in the classroom, instead of the traditional focus on grammar in learning many foreign languages. At a young age, I would suggest programs that teach using a lot of singing and other fun activities.

Summer Camps

Going to a summer camp in a full immersion environment is a great way to learn Chinese! Each year ChildBook publishes the largest list I have found of Summer Chinese Programs. These range from weekend programs in the US to programs that include a boarding school to programs in China and Taiwan. I favor the full immersion process as a great way to Learn Chinese.

Chinese Learning Products

CD’s for Learning Chinese

CD’s come in two different types. One is products that are 100% Chinese of Chinese Children Songs or stories only in Chinese. Some products include a book of lyrics in Chinese, and other’s don’t. Other products are designed to teach Chinese and have a booklet with lyrics in English, Pinyin, and Chinese Characters. The teaching Chinese products are both from from the US (the majority) and a series from Singapore. The products for Teaching Chinese are bilingual, so the songs are sung in both Chinese and English. What I like about the CD’s is they give a parent a chance to be part of the process where they can Sing Happy Birthday in the Teach Me Chinese CD and Book in both English and Chinese (this series focuses on popular songs in Chinese and English). The other series have specially written songs for Teaching Chinese. The Teach Me Chinese Series has Teacher Guides available. The Sing & Learn Chinese CD & Book includes a track of the songs without words (like Karoke). Let’s Sing Chinese is a 3 product series from Singapore that has both familiar songs and new ones. 3 is the most I have seen of any series of Cd’s for Teaching Chinese to Children.

Video’s for Learning Chinese

Video’s such as from Mei Mei use more of a hands on approach teaching basic Chinese vocabulary and she currently has five video’s in her series. From the first one that teaches counting and parts of the body with songs through an approach that children love to later ones that progress such as her Play and Learn Chinese with Mei Mei where an actual Chinese Kindergarten is visited. What is great about this video is it gives your Child the chance to compare their experience and see the differences between their school and the one in the video. From lunch to PE to naps. To select the right video for your child, I recommend reading the reviews (both good and bad).

Books for Learning Chinese

A great book for those just beginning to Learn Chinese is I Won’t Bite. It’s a touch and feel book that has Pinyin, Chinese Characters, and English. The challenge of using a book is often you need to know how to read Chinese, in order to teach from it. A fun book for exposing Children to Chinese Characters is Long Is A Dragon by Peggy Goldstein A selection of books for Learning Chinese Character

Software for Learning Chinese

Any day some Software should arrive that has been highly recommended by customers.

ChildBook.com for over 10 years has been helping Children in the United States learn more about Chinese Culture and Language. They do this by selling Chinese Children’s books, Music, and Video’s in both Chinese and English. ChildBook.com was started in 1998 due to the frustration of the owners in finding good Chinese Language Learning material to bring their daughter up bilingually.
