I need a babysitter but I’m a new mom and not too sure where to look.I’ve looked into day care, but b/c my son isn’t a year yet, they only take full time. I don’t require full time so this would be a waste of money and their time? Any suggestions?
I don’t know many pple in my city and I am an overprotective parent(who isn’t) so I would prefer someone qualified with Child CPR and First aid. All the friends I do have don;t have babies and I have checked the bulletins at the grocery store I shop at but there are never any postings???

keep looking…plus when you go to the laundrymat or the store..they have bulletins usually for babysitters. Most are accredited. You just have to look into them.

ask neighbors who they have, check with the neighood, there may be teens who are looking for a few $$ here and there.

Ask friends who they use, and check different bulletins, maybe you have some neighbors with teens, ask them.

your social services department may have a list of licensed care providers, also a junior college may have a list. Ask coworkers, check at churches. be sure to interview and check references. keep checking day cares, you should be able to find one with 2 day or 3 day openings.

i would check with the local elementary schools, they usually have a list of good local sitters, alot of kindergartners have sitters and the schools know of them.and alot of them are looking for smaller children because they won’t have the other kids much longer

if u need a sitter 4 the night then ask a family member or friend and return the favor at some later date in many ways whatever the situation may be. if a continuous situation then you may ask your or your spouces mom or grandmom and make sur to help her out anyway that she made need it even though most moms or grandmms will not ask for a favor in return. good luck because agencies r xpensive now n days I know n u dont want 2 leave your precious child with just any1 not n 2days world

place an add in your local paper specify what you want. no smokers, mature, with CPR, first aid when you meet the people look for someone older and go by your gut feeling. have them show you there CPR and stuff and call there references and find out why they are currently not working.

You can call your Countys Health Dept. and ask them for the Childrens Hotline.
The Childrens Hotline, can give you names and phone numbers of Babysitters who are licenced and finger printed.
It will be up to you and the sitter to set the sitting fees.

I sure you baby goes to the pediatrician. Ask the people there. They may know someone that they would trust to leave their own kids with, so that may help you too. Also, when I worked in Peds, we also had overprotective moms that brought their kids all the time, they didnt work and might be willing to keep yours some too.

go to your local college and post a bulletin for Early Childhood Education Students, college kids are always looking for extra money. Ask for references or even a referral from their teacher. Always go with your gut instinct too if they give you a weird vibe keep looking.

I would post an ad at the local college, look in your local newspaper. post an ad in grocery stores, good babysitter are easy to find and some have CPR and first Aid too. youngsters love to earn extra cash especially doing summertime, keep looking you will find a sitter sooner or later.

actually if you type in the classifeds for your area you will find alot of babysitters that are pretty dirt cheap, i dont know if i would trust them but you can look and see.

Many colleges have ECE (early childhood education) programs and those students are trained in CPR and are always looking for experience before they graduate (plus extra $$) so that they can have references for future employment…Some are even required to log so many hours before graduation and that doesn’t mean they will get paid very much and they’ll do a great job because you’re the one that will be grading them and passing that information on to their instructors! A lot of these colleges also have daycare on site that is much cheaper than any private day cares. Defintely worth looking into.

If you are that protective, the extra money spent on an agency is well worth the peace of mind you’ll get by knowing the person you get is well qualified and with impeccable credentials. don’t shortchange your little one.

If you belong to a church try the youth group. Do you have an neighbors with kids (depending on the age of the child) Ask friends of yours.

Go with Mschief29′s answer. I’m also currently looking for a sitter and after reading her post I punched in my local community colleges website and there is indeed a link where I can post a FREE bulletine for students! Woohoo!
I found an additional link for jobseekers age 50+ sponsored by the AARP there. I suggest posting with AARP Senior Employment Program if you are more comfortable with an older person to care for your child.

Where are your grandma’s and aunts and uncles.
Do you go to church anywhere. There are a lot of good possibilties of babysitters in your church. I do the babysitting trade off. I babysit for my friends or realitives for free then in return they babysitt for me for free.
