If a babysitter babysits in your home, has access to your food, while babysitting a 6 month old baby how much should she get paid per hour? Should it matter what the age of the baby or child is at all when paying? Like what if the child was 4 or 11 or something like that? Does any of this make any difference?
Sorry let me add more info here, this is for a friend of mine who stuck babysitting for barely anything. She gets paid about 25 dollars for 2 weeks of babysitting that is about 20-30 hours a week. It pisses me off and I want her to know she should be paid more.
She is 22 years old and she is best friend’s with the person so she let’s it happen and she’ll do it at the last minute for her and everything. This woman does not even ask her if she can babysit. She actually sets up a schedule and expects her to do it.

I’d say $10. Most of the time, babysitters work about 4 hours, so $40 a day isn’t bad.
Your friend is getting very underpaid. She should be making a lot more. It depends on her age though. How old is she?
Your friend should really talk to her employer. That i way too underpaid, and for her age, she should get paid a lot more. Convince your friend to talk to her.

For an infant, $6-8 per hour………doesn’t matter that she is in your home with a frig full of food. That’s like saying an employer should pay you less because they are providing you a desk with supplies, a phone and a lunch room to eat in.

Ask them what they usually get paid.
If it’s too much for your pocket book….you may want to find someone else who is willing to sit for what you can afford.
Bringing someone in who is used to making say $10.00 an hour and you can only afford $4.00 may make them take it out on your child/children.
And…if you have more than one child…it should be more.
If it’s a one time shot…negotiate.
If it’s someone fulltime….you can fix a flat rate.
But…make sure you thouroughly investigate them as much as possible. Don’t trust their ‘references’. They are probably just their friends.
Good luck.

I usually pay at least min wage (5.75), but some charge up to $8 per hour. I dont normally have them watch the kids in my home so dont really know about that part

You are caring for someones baby! I would say that is alot more valuable then a convenience store or a restaurant. Not to mention you are left alone to make all the decisions and you take full responsibility. I would say this is worth at least 40 dollars an hour. If parents arent willing to pay a respectable amount for a respectable watcher then they dont care about their baby. Might as well as employ a bum.

It should be dependent on the experience of the babysitter as well as the age and number of children. You know your children best – if your 6 month old screams its head off all the time then it would be much more difficult to babysit that child than a 3 year old that is happy to entertain him/herself. Ask the babysitter what they usually get paid and ask there references what they typically pay them. Also, take into consideration where you live – $6 an hour is probably fine in Idaho but would be an absolute joke in Hawaii or New York…

i believe the state would pay home care providers $4 an hour so that seems about right or a set $20 a day
