I try so hard in school to make my dad proud and my brother gets average grades, he doesn’t play any sports, throws temper tantrums constantly and hes 10 years old! i’m almost 14 and i feel like i can’t live up to what my dad expects of me. he always chooses my brother over me and i really can’t take it. yesterday we were gonna go fishing and hes like well if the nanny doesn’t show up then sam’s just gonna have to stay home and watch the baby, and its ridiculous cause i would have to do that because the boys wanted to go fishing so i wouldn’t get to? luckily my step mom always tells my dad that’s wrong, but her and my dad are in the process of a divorce so shes not around as much but still pretty often. my dad is a little sexist because he thinks boys are better a sports and he almost didn’t let me go fishing yesterday because i was a girl. my step mom told him to treat all the kids equally and always lets him know that my brother is misbehaving and he still throws temper tantrums. i am really girly but i play soccer and tennis and my brother plays no sports so who is my dad to say that girls can’t play sports? how can i tell my dad to stop the favoritism. what is so good about my brother? my dad has 4 biological kids and 2 step kids; out of the 6 my brother is the 5th and hes my dads only biological son and my dad also has a stepson.

Boston Mom asked:

My husband and I are having a baby girl in December, but we can’t decide on a name. We’ve narrowed it down to three names that we really love. Which one do you like best, and why? Which is your least favorite and why? We really want your honest opinions, just no rude comments. We’d love middle name suggestions, but keep first name suggestions to a minimum. Here are the names we’ve chosen:

Ella-Ann Christine- Ella is a name we both love, Ann is after my grandmother who recently passed, and Christine is a name we love, but also happens to be my aunt’s name.

Charlotte-Rose Kristine- Charlotte is also a name we love, and Rose is my middle name. We’d spell Christine with a K because we think there would be too many Chs if we spelled it the traditional way. Do you think this name is too long?

Vivienne Grace- Just a name we love. Not sure on the middle name, though. I’d really like to use a family name, but I can’t figure out how to make it flow.

Here’s the family names (I’ll also write the men’s names in case you know a feminine version) I know it’s tough to make these into middle names, so if you don’t have the time or patience you don’t have to, I’d just appreciate it since all of these people have had HUGE roles in my life. My husband isn’t close to his family, unfortunately.
Mary Virginia (my grandmother, but she went by her middle name)
Anne Mary (my other grandmother. The grandkids all called her Nanny Annie)
Colleen Mary (my mother’s name, but Colleen is already my oldest daughter’s middle name, so let’s leave that one out.)
Kelley Marie (aunt)
Erin Maureen (aunt)
Christine Mary (aunt)
Silvia Ida (aunt, but I really don’t like the name Ida, so let’s leave that one out.)
Thomas Patrick (uncle)
John Michael (uncle)
James Edward (uncle)
Thomas Richard (cousin)
Jamie-Lee (cousin, this is a girl btw, i know it’s a unisex name so i just wanted to let you know)
Benjamin James (cousin)
Kelly Elizabeth (cousin)
Shea Ellen (sister)
Jamie Erin (sister)

I really appreciate your help, it means so much to my family and I. Like I said, you don’t have to do anything with the family names if it is too much work, but if you do I’ll appreciate your assistance that much more.
Ok, a couple things- First, we’ve decided that the three first names are DEFINITE, so no first name suggestions, please. Second, (this is for steph_k) I guess I failed to mention that my name was Virginia, Ginny for short lol, so I’d never give that name to my daughter. My husband’s name is Rob, but please no suggestions for the middle name Roberta or something. We knocked that one off the list a while ago. OK well thanks so much for your help!!!!!!

This is long, but I would appreciate someone reading it all and taking the time to hear what I have to say.

My relationship with my father has been through the ringer throughout my entire life. I am to the point now where I don’t know what to do and I am thinking about throwing my hands up and just keeping him out of my life…

My situation now, is… I am 25 years old and I am engaged to get married. My fiance and I have been together for 4 years and we had planned to marry next year, however I got pregnant. My fiance and I decided to postpone the wedding so I wouldn’t be overwhelmed with wedding plans and I could just concentrate on being pregnant. We agreed to get married maybe a year after the baby is born, which only puts us back about 9-10 months from when we originally wanted to get married. With that said, my dad (who has decided when it’s more conveinant for him to be my father, not consistant at all) has decided to lecture me on the value of being married when we bring our daughter into the world… he tells me how much it hurt him when him and my mom split up and he couldn’t have me around all the time. But all I remember from my child hood is when it was his turn to get me on the weekends he would leave me with a nanny and go party on Friday and Saturday nights and on Sundays when he took me back to my moms, he would call that our special bonding time and that would make up for Fri and Sat. He has been married 3 times, and the 2nd marriage he would cancel a lot of my weekends with him because he had out of town plans with his wife, and the third marriage she is 29 years old from Vietnam and she barely speaks english. If I ever bring up the status of my pregnancy (ie… doctor’s visits, kicking, anything) he just blows it off and changes the subject to talk about something about himself, his new wife, or his career. However whenever he brings up my pregnancy he always refers to my daughter as HIS grandchild. Growing up I was a good kid… I made good grades, never got into much trouble, served in the military, and I’m months away from getting a bachelor degree…. I will never be good enough for him, and it seems like he has a problem with the fact that my child will be born out of wedlock… when he’s the one who encouraged my fiance and I to live together. (what did he think would happen?) Things happen. Also I don’t understand his stance on tradition all of a sudden when he has had numerous affair’s all of 3 of his wives.

How do I deal with this man? I guess you can’t choose who your parents are, huh??
I meant to say… Numerous affairs on all three wives.

im 18, it was supposed to be my senior year but im pregnant and im high risk so ive opted for my ged.
well ive been so busy that i didnt get it done in time. my baby will have heart problems and im due in 5 weeks. I wasnt going to do day care because ive worked in one and dont trust um. especially with my child who can turn blue at any min. and would need an air lift to a hospital 3 hours away for surgery. but now i feel obligated to choose daycare. we cant even afford day care. i cant work, my boyfriend only makes 300- 800 a week and day care is like 100 a week if not more let alone paying for a nanny or at home babysitter. we dont have any family who can take care of my child. i dont know whether to push off getting my GED or do daycare. the GED classes are mon- fri 8am – 2pm.
Im trying to get it done now but they may not let me in the program until after i have the baby because my due dates so close.

Lazy partner?

peter w asked:

How do you persuade your partner (in this case wife) to pull her weight in a marriage if she just wants to be lazy and do almost nothing? She seems to start things and then just give up (no staying power). Divorce is not an option so dont mention it please
More details: She doesnt earn any money/ do a job, and is not looking having been not chosen for one interview; she refuses to learn to drive after having a few lessons which went fine and then giving up; she sleeps in same bed as her toddler then says that is her job done (the toddler going to our 24/7 live in nanny the rest of the day); she speaks some english but has dropped out of any course I have enrolled her on; she doesnt cook (the nanny does it); she does a small amount of cleaning, she does the food shopping (via internet), buys all toddlers clothes (with my money) and irons.

How can I motivate her to do anything else – she goes bezerk (like a box of fireworks) no matter how subtlely I try and broach the subject
JadeyOz that is the most bitter and offensive post i have ever seen – regardless of whether you are making any valid point, your abusive aggressive manner means your argument is not measured or balanced, therfore ignored – speak like an adult if you wish to have your views listened to
thanks for trying but you are not understanding the situation completely

she will not go to english classes
she will not cook
she will not let anyone teach her to drice
she will not try to get a job
this is a pretty complicated problem – i dont need sympathy because we do have enough to have a reasonable life, it just winds me up im doing all the work.
On the plus side she is a stunner and the *** life is amazing! lol. and she is a right laugh we never stop talking and joking (married 5 years now and the conversation and fun is non stop without a break)
I just need some cunning plans to get her off her ***!

Steven R asked:

Law and Order: SVU had a perfect example of just how selfish a parent could be by not vaccinating a child.

Basically, the show started out with a young mom who went out partying and stated that she had left her baby girl with a nanny. Of course there was no nanny and the young mom had actually buried her dead daughter. The daughter at the time was not old enough to get a vaccine yet.

The mom thought that when the baby was crying she had hit her too hard and she panicked. Except that the baby didn’t die from being hit, instead she died from the measles.

It turns out in one of the parks that the mom took her daughter too there was a woman who’s son who had been sick and turns out had the measles, so the virus was spread because the mother did not get the vaccine for the child.

The mom with the kids who had measles was arrested for the babies death. She was found not guilty.

But, there’s more to the episode. After the woman was found not guilty there was a 911 call to her residence. You see the grandfather of the young woman who had her baby die run into the house.

The show makes it seem like he went in their to kill the woman who had the kid with the measles, but that’s not what happened. He shot himself in the head and in his hand was a picture of his grand daughter.

So, not only was this woman responsible for a death of a baby, she’s responsible for the death of the man as well.

Just because you choose to not vaccinate your child doesn’t mean it won’t have an effect on another child.

The babysitter has know the family for more then a year…helps them out routinely on the weekends for more then 72 hours. I am just wondering, as when it comes to legality, guardianship etc, would a babysitter be granted the status for emergencies, other purposes?

Hey, we’ve aready tried a nanny cam for a month, and the day we took it down, the tire got slashed. My mom has only been living here for a year and a half, and her tire has been slashed 13 times already. It’s our dumb religious neighbor who says I’m the child of Satan just because I scuffed her car when i was parking once. I paid her 100 bucks for an invisible scratch on her car, and said, i hope your’e happy every time she walks out in the street, i hope a fed ex truck will smack her head on. the day my mom moved in, she came busting at the door attacking my mom with questions like, where are you coming from?, what spirituality are you?, you single?, married?, divorced?, retired?, working?, what job ya got?, this your car? and crap like that. I don’t want to go to jail for battery assault, and my mother isn’t going to be forced to find another home. What should I do?
I know this is a serious matter, but please star my question.

I have a job that involves shift work and am planning on using a babysitter to watch my daughter if I have to work during the evening or overnight in my home.

What is a reasonable day or hourly rate? I would be using the sitter’s services maybe 1 or 2 days a week.
I’m not looking for a nanny b/c she is in daycare full-time on weekdays. I just need an occassional babysitter to watch her during my odd shifts.

Caught on nannycam?

kimmers asked:

We recently just hired a nanny to watch our 3 year old twins and we have nanny cams installed in our home for both our child’s safety as well as for sense of ease. Anyways, we caught our nanny on camera going through my lingerie drawers as well as through my closet in our bedroom. We confronted her about it without allowing her to know we have her on camera and she denied it. She didn’t steal anything and simply just looked through our things. She is great with our twins and works wonderfully with our schedule. My husband and I aren’t sure what to do. Any suggestions?
