The babysitter has know the family for more then a year…helps them out routinely on the weekends for more then 72 hours. I am just wondering, as when it comes to legality, guardianship etc, would a babysitter be granted the status for emergencies, other purposes?

no they will not be considered a guardian. they can be listed as an emergency contact on paperwork for schools or they can contact 911 for help and things like that but they are not a guardian.

Temprary guardian only, unless otherwise legally documented by the parents or other legally appointed guardian.
Not for emergencies, only if designated by the parent, ohterwise next of kin would be contacted unless specified in a will or other legal doc.

If the parents list them on medical records, school records, and so forth, but not as a guardian but as emergency contact etc… Guardianship is handled by the courts.

That can fall under the care giver category, To obtain guardianship you would have to petition the court with reason Thur a attorney, Then the family would have to agree by signing affidavits, the final say would go before a judge.

I think it depends on where you are, Like what state…
Parent can sign a note saying that in case of an emercency….this person has permission to make medical decisions… and whatnot…I live in Maine and thats what family friends did when their daughter didnt want to go on a trip so she stayed with another family friend. Luckily, the situation never came up, but if it had, they would have been taken care of
try calling a lawyer or DHS…they’re usual quite happy to help you out with any questions.

No but a paper can be written up for the sitter to take with them if something were to happen granting her the right to make medical decisions….

Babysitter is a contract position
Guardian is a court ordered position
One’s legal, one’s a handshake

At TEMPORARY ONLY.
If the parents, say, just left the kids with you then ran off… You would be their guardian until you get the kids to a foster home.
