Do you think that Public Surveillance Technology will make your city safer or just invade your privacy?
I stumbled upon this website that links you to hundreds of live feeds of private cameras all over the world. Basically you can view anyone who has a camera hooked up to a live feed, these include nanny cams, retirement homes, and even your web cam on your computer.
Is anyone else a little freaked out by our lack of privacy these days? Or do you think it has become a necessary part of everyday life?

*The site even says These webcams were found through a variety of clever search techniques and update several times a day. Their owners may or may not have intended for them to be public.
lol that tells me we could be being watched at any time right?
Jan- You make a good point, but what about the people who say Well if you’re not doing anything wrong, you shouldn’t worry about them spying on you. I have heard that argument many times.
Also, if I can find the link, they are trying to do the same with internet privacy too. The reason the FBI claims is to catch child molesters. Touchy issues.

If I told you it wouldn’t be private, now would it?

I have a webcam. I’m a nudist unfortunately.
I really dont give a dam if they are spying on me because there are only around 50 people on that site usually and I look good so I’m not ashamed.

Depending on your experience with criminal activities (being robbed, mugged, car stolen, vandalized, etc.) you’d probably lean towards surveillance being necessary… however, there’s a boundary which I think needs to be drawn. Surveillance definitely makes criminals think twice about committing crimes but what about us regular law-abiding citizens who don’t need to be watched yet our cellphones are tapped? Eventually it’ll get out of hand and will be addressed seriously in the media.

Great question, I was telling my roommate who works at the Geek Squad fixing computers that I am tired of myy Pc, acting up, and getting viruses so my next computer was going to be a MAC. Everyone with a Mac that I know love it b/c they don’t get any virues.
So my roommate told me that Macs come with build in cameras and the gov’t can access what they want and even take a pic of you while you are on the net ***!! He worked as an intern at Nasa this past summer and saw them do it.

As long as I have privacy in my own home, I’m ok with public surveillance. With everything going on all over the world, America in particular: Women getting abducted, children abducted, robberies, murder it should be important to people, one of the victims could be some one they care for dearly. And nanny cams, I think families should inform their nannies they will be watching them to prevent them from ever harming their kids, same as elders in nursing care,

yeah thats why i dont have webcams and stuff
i know how to hack into security cams webcams and stuff and the people are so clueless on how little privacy they have…
i think i twill get worse but i love privacy
i think theres pro’s and cons to this
it will help with finding who has robbed or killed someone if on camera but it will make people uncomfortable doing things outside their home but oh well…
