I have a job that involves shift work and am planning on using a babysitter to watch my daughter if I have to work during the evening or overnight in my home.
What is a reasonable day or hourly rate? I would be using the sitter’s services maybe 1 or 2 days a week.
I’m not looking for a nanny b/c she is in daycare full-time on weekdays. I just need an occassional babysitter to watch her during my odd shifts.

I’d say about 55 for the day, and 70 for overnight.
I used to babysit for just a few hours at a time and got paid normally $25.

It depends on who you’re using- a teen aged babysitter or a nanny type person. You can pay anywhere from about $8 to $12 and hour depending on age and experience. I’m a nanny and I charge $15/hour for 1 child and I have 37 years experience.

You know, it really depends on your area. I know in the south or middle US that it is cheaper basically for everything (even babysitters) but like where I live, CA, $5 an hour per child is common. You need to first find a babysitter and be honest with your financial situation and tell her how much you can afford and see if she is willing to work for that. You also need to call people (friends/family) and ask what they charge because like i said, your area might be extremely cheap, or extremely expensive. Dont’ want to overpay or underpay too much.
