I have 2 kids a boy that just turned 1 and a girl that will be 3 next month. I have spoke to a lady that was set up through mutual acquaintances but we have not set a price. She will be more of an on call babysitter; not on an everyday basic.

WELL FOR THE TWO OF THEM, I WOULD SAY ANYWHERE BETWEEN $10-15 A HOUR, ALSO DEPENDING ON THE EXPERIENCE YOU WILL KNOW IF YOU SHOULD PAY MORE OR LESS

I think $5.00 at very the most.
Someone said $10.00.
My ass.
Hard-working people out in the workforce don’t get paid that much. And the babysitter will probably just sit the kid in front of the TV.
However, when I was babysitting in the early ’90s, I think I only charged about $1.50 – 2.00.
Or a dollar a kid.
In response to Just Me below:
My response was directed at how much a teenager should be paid.
For an adult watching their friend’s children (and in half the cases probably their own kids as well) I think a good flat rate is good. Not hourly, just a good rate depending on how long the parents plan to be gone, what they have planned for the kids, will the babysitter cook for the kids? Are they staying overnight? Will the babysitter need to drive the kids home? etc. etc.

Wow! I want to babysit for all you people! I have always gotten 1 or 2 dollars per kid. This would include me taking them to the park, swimming, cooking, doing dishes.. etc.

5 dollars an hour and then 10 dollars flat fee for a second child.

I am 30 and I still babysit I would charge between $10-$12 for two kids. A 16 yr old may charge less but $5 an hour is too low now and days.

Depends on how many hours. I had babysitted before for about 6hours. got 50bucks that day. Only because, theres an hour they do sleep so you really dont have to keep an eye on them at the time, so whats the point in paying for that hour?

10 dollars to 15 dollars is good for me. Ask her what she wants and then if it is way too much for just a couple of hours, then reduce the price a couple of dollars and ask her if it will work for her.

I babysit on the side. Depending on the situation I have charged as little as $10/hour (for my neighbor’s toddler) and as much as $30 (for a wealthy family on New Year’s Eve). I am a 30 year old nursing student and administrative assistant. I don’t sit and watch tv, I engage the child in enriching activities, and I am also CPR certified (infant child).

It really depends on where you are… here $10 per hour gets you teenage sitters that are completely unreliable and just do their homeworks and don’t have any interaction with the kids (which could be ok if it’s once a blue moon but not regularly)..
For kids under 5 which are obviously more than a handful compared to 10year olds, would be $12-15. That is the rate in my city with a responsible and older sitter.
With all this said and done, sometimes it’s easier to just charge per block of time… ie: 3hour night, $20 and free dinner (as they go to sleep earlier, etc)

for 2 kids i would say at least $10 per hour. if you hired a teenager maybe $8 but for a responsible adult that would be too low.

I can’t believe people are saying 5 dollars an hour. What a rip off. Minimum wage is 8.50.
I am a babysitter on a weekly basis and the families pay me between $10- $20 an hour. And that’s because of my experience, the classes I have taken, and I don’t just sit the children to watch the t.v. I engage the children in activities, take them to the park, do fun little crafts.
If your sitter has a few years of experience Id give her at least 10 dollars an hour. If she will actually engage your children in learning activities Id say a little more than 10. Or however much you can afford. But believe me, if you were paying me 5 dollars an hour to watch your children, I’d be gone like that.
