If you are treating a baby that has eczema, there are a few things that you should look for to help guide you into a treatment that not only heals eczema right now, but will also not cause problems for your child as he continues to grow.

As you search, it is important for you to be aware that not all treatments will affect every baby equally. You should also be aware that new approaches to treating eczema are on the horizon as the most dominant thought about the cause of eczema has all but been proven incorrect.

It was thought that a malfunctioning immune system was the main contributor to eczema. But now that thought is changing and the thought replacing it is that eczema is caused by a skin barrier malfunction.

While you wait on new information, you also need to remember that there is no cure for eczema. The best you can do until we find a cure is to either outgrow it, or find the treatment that works for your baby. What you want to do is use a treatment that gets rid of the inflammation. Eczema is dependant upon inflammation. When there is no inflammation, there is no eczema.

I find it important to also tell you that many treatments used to attack baby eczema can involve nasty side effects. The side effects involved can range from a small rash all the way up to skin cancer. The good thing is that the products that may cause cancer alerts you to this fact in the literature accompanying the product.

You also need to know that some treatment options used for babies do not work right away. A case of this is oral steroids. It can take a few days before any results begin to show. While it may take a few days, the work of the oral steroid is quite thorough in that they work well. The problem with them is they do come with side effects.

These are a few of the things you need to keep in mind when you are choosing a treatment to use on your baby’s eczema. Once you remember them and apply them you will have in place a good foundation to help you care for the baby until you have a cure for it in your hands.
