When most people hear the word babysitting, they think back to the people their parents hired to watch them when they were growing up. There was always the sitter who insisted on playing only the educational games and made you eat those peas at dinner, and then there was the baby sitter that ignored you completely in order to watch her nightly television shows. Finding a good person to watch your kids can be difficult! While the most common sitter is the one your parents hire to take care of you for an evening, there are many other types of babysitter jobs out there. If you are interested in babysitting or you are a parent looking for a sitter, here are some types of jobs and sitters available!

When most parents need a baby sitter, they need someone to watch their children for just an evening or during a weekend day while they enjoy a night off or run errands. Other families need more help watching their children than someone who comes to the house only a few nights a month. In families where both parents work, it is very common to for them to hire an all-day sitter to do in-house daycare. This individual comes to take care of the children during the day and leaves when one or both parents get home in the evening. Other families even go one step further and hire a live-in nanny. This type of babysitter actually lives in the home and takes care of the children all day for at least five or six days a week. One type of a live-in nanny is an au pair. These individuals are usually girls in their early twenties from Europe who want to spend a year in the United States in order to learn better English. They live with the family whose children they care for and take classes at local colleges.

Families do ask baby sitters for other services, such as tutoring, house sitting, and pet sitting. Tutoring may be included in the “nanny” job description, but you can also find college students who offer tutoring services for children in elementary grades through high school. If you are someone who does not want to take care of children, you should consider either house and pet sitting. These jobs usually happen in the summer when families go on vacation so it would be more difficult to find clients all year round.

If you are interested in finding these types of babysitter jobs or you are a parent looking to hire someone to watch your children or pet, the internet is a great resource. Several websites are in place to connect you with individuals and families in your area!
