Top 3 Facts on Sitter Services

Reputable sitter services are truly a big help. Not everyone however is convinced about the need to locate a good service. If manual sitter searches have been working out for you, then you may not need a service yet. If however, you are beginning to find it hard to look for a good sitter, then a reputable service may answer your needs. Here are top three facts you should know about sitter services.

Fact #1: They are great ways to find babysitters.

You’ll never have to worry about a shortage of options. Popular and reputable sites have hundreds of sitters for you to choose from in your area. Service sites are where families and sitters typically meet to find if they like each other. It’s just like a traditional dating site. Babysitter services however have so much more to offer.

Depending on the service of your choice, you can take advantage of some benefits. Some services offer comprehensive checks on their sitter members’ backgrounds. These sites leave sitter records open for member families to view and assess. The final screening process however is left entirely on the families. Member families can interview member sitters to determine if they match.

A number of sites also offer a few extra services. These may include suggestions for interview questions, screening steps and suggested contract information. Other useful pieces of information that may be included are tips on how to deal with baby sitters.

Fact #2: They are like babysitters. They need to come with recommendations.

Sitter services are just like babysitters. They come in all types and kinds. This means you can’t just trust every sitter service you come across. Some are better than others. There are also some that provide bad service. Before you pick a babysitter service, you have to find out more about it.

Research a bit about a prospective sitter service. Read everything that they have in their site. Find out about their procedures, services, policies and terms and conditions. If you are about to use a service for the first time, consider looking into several services. Compare different services with one another and find out their differences in services offered and cost of service.

You might also want to read what real users have to say about a sitter service. No babysitting service would include a bad testimonial on their pages. The best way to check unbiased client opinions would be to head off to forums. There are many babysitting and parenting forums online. Members of these forums will only be more than willing to offer their insights to a parent in need.

Fact #3: They aren’t very expensive but you should expect to pay a fair amount.

Different sites have different ways of charging for their services. Some offer a period of membership for unlimited access to information on sitters. Other sites however have different levels of membership. Only higher level members are allowed full access for a high fee. In general though, online services are still cheaper than traditional agencies.

If all else fails, sitter services may truly be your best hope. Find a good service now and save yourself a lot of effort and money.

Are your child’s sleep habits keeping you awake at night?

If so, you’ve probably heard about Ferber sleep training. This method is designed to get children to fall asleep on their own, without being soothed to sleep by their parents. It works by having parents progressively withdraw from their children over a period of several nights. Here’s an outline of the typical procedure.

o Night One: Put your child to bed (while he’s still awake) and leave him alone for 3 minutes. During these 3 minutes, ignore your child’s cries and protests. After the 3 minutes are over, you can check on your child. But keep your visit brief–no more than 30 seconds. Don’t pick him up or hold him, because doing so will “reward” him for crying. At the end of your visit, leave your child again–this time for 5 minutes. Perform another quick check, and then leave him for 10 minutes. Repeat this cycle (briefly checking on your child and then ignoring him for 10 minutes) until your child finally falls asleep.

o Subsequent nights. Continue the procedure outlined above, but each night increase the time between checks. For example, on Night Two, wait 5 minutes before your first check, 10 before your second check, and 12 minutes before all subsequent checks. After a few nights of training, intervals between checks might stretch to 20 minutes or more.

Is the Ferber method right for your child? Unfortunately, there is no clear-cut answer to this question.

On the positive side, scientific studies show that Ferber sleep training is an effective way to reduce bedtime tantrums. Ferber “graduates” are less likely to awaken their parents at night, and parents report improvements in their own stress levels and mood. For a sleepless parent at the end of her rope, these benefits are extremely important.

But on the negative side, the training process can be very distressing. During training, children may become so upset that they vomit. Some parents may find this intolerable.

More importantly, no one yet has studied the long-term effects of Ferber training on a child’s personality, stress-response system, or emotional development. This lack of information – and the fact that “crying it out” is a very unusual parenting practice when viewed cross-culturally – persuades some people to reject the method.

But regardless of the controversy, there are some points on which the experts agree:

o The Ferber method is NOT appropriate for young babies. Young babies need to feed at night, and their sleep patterns are still immature. For these reasons, researchers recommend that parents avoid Ferber sleep training for babies less than 6 months old.

o The Ferber method is NOT appropriate for kids who have a conditioned fear of being left alone in their beds or who have a conditioned vomiting response.

o The Ferber method is NOT appropriate as a treatment for most child sleep problems. For instance, if your child suffers from separation anxiety, or sleep apnea, or a circadian rhythm disorder, Ferber sleep training isn’t going to cure these problems. In fact, it might make things worse. For these reasons, it’s important to identify and treat your child’s specific problems before you try sleep training.

o The Ferber method does NOT teach kids how to fall asleep. During Ferber sleep training, kids are left to work things out for themselves. If you really want to help your child fall asleep on her own, you need to teach her specific relaxation techniques.

o The Ferber method isn’t the only sleep training program available. A recent review by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine suggests that other, less distressing methods are equally effective.

The bottom line? Before you attempt the Ferber method, consider your child’s age and temperament, and screen her for pre-existing sleep problems. It’s also a good idea to check out alternative training programs. After “shopping around,” you’ll be in a better position to choose the best approach for your child.

1. Require a Job Application

You may feel silly having a candidate fill out an application to work in your home, but you would be wrong to let that stop you. You can search on the internet to find a sample application that includes the candidate’s name, address, phone number and a chronological job and educational history. This information helps you positively identify that the person is who they say they are. Be sure to confirm their name and address by looking at a copy of their driver’s license or similar photo identification. Be sure the application is signed and dated as well as includes the option to run a background check including drug screening.

2. Analyze their past work history

If significant gaps exist in between jobs, ask the candidate what they were doing during that time. Some people who have gaps in their records that show no work for any extended period of time are hiding something. Chances are you want to know what that is because it might be a prior experience they don’t want you to know about, or worse yet, time spent incarcerated.

3. Require Work References

No application is complete without prior references from employers. They should not be friends or family of the applicant. Personally speak to all references and have a list of questions ready. If your candidate can’t or will not provide references, walk away.

4. Do a Professional Interview

Many families have little or no practice experience interviewing prospective employees. Go online and search for a list of interview questions for this purpose. You might want to conduct your first interview in a public place; maybe a local coffee shop. This protects you from strangers coming into your home and may allay their fears as well.

5. Let the Candidate do the Talking

Don’t make the mistake of talking throughout the interview. You want the applicant to speak as much as possible so you can get a greater amount of information while paying attention to how you feel about the person and their response. Ask them to relate past experiences with critical situations such as how to handle an injured child. Or ask something like, “Tell me about a time when you had to deal with a crying baby. What did you do?”

6. Schedule a Second Working Interview

Once you’ve chosen someone you think might be good, bring them back into your home so they can meet your children. Allow the applicant to observe your typical family interactions. Watch exactly how they interact with your children. You should get a good sense of whether they are going to handle your kids appropriately from this appointment.

7. Logistical Question for the Candidate

If the prospect is young, find out if she has every lived away from home before. Does her family support her in being a nanny? If she is traveling to work, does she have a reliable car?

8. Always Trust your Instincts.

If your gut says there is something wrong, listen to it. There are plenty of candidates out there and it is always better to be safe. If you see something on the background check that concerns you, don’t hire them. If you are interviewing someone from overseas, make sure you can get a background check in their country of origin. Also make sure they have a US work permit. Otherwise, don’t hire them.

Crime is rising every day, every moment. Some people work very hard for a decent living and other people are trying to do the same thing but the easier way, by stealing. We all wish that’s not the case but unfortunately that’s our reality. The bad news is that it’s going to get worst, statistic show. People do have a habit to thing that bad things happen to someone else, not to them but probably it would be wise not to wait for it to happen but to prevent it, if possible.

To protect ourselves and our assets we can actually do a lot. Today technology is so advanced. What ones was only for protecting objects where money was, like banks and casinos, today we call home surveillance systems. Surveillance devices are much more practical, smaller and adapted for home use, and what is very important is that it is affordable. Truth is that no one is on the safe side. There is no safe neighborhood, richer or poorer. Everyone can be a victim of crime. The fact that home surveillance systems are affordable to most people and simple enough to use, makes it way of living for more and more people.

The use for home surveillance system can be found everywhere. If you are away from your home for business or pleasure, you would want to keep an eye on your property just for a peace of mind. If you have a nanny for your young children it’s natural that you have a need to check what is going on, or a little baby that you need to hear when you are on the other side of the house. Your back yard, every part of your home can be covered. For those needs, home surveillance systems that are available to you are home security cameras, hidden cameras (wireless), infrared cameras, wireless baby monitors, nanny cameras, home cctv, security DVR’s.

There is always a possibility of hiring companies that, with their home surveillance equipment and alarms, offer you 24 hours protection, but you pay monthly fee and let’s just say it’s not that cheap. I will just mention from experience of someone close to me, that alarm went on by mistake, and no one has responded. That’s all about relying on them. But listen, nothing is a 100 percent sure so we are all trying our best to protect our families and everything that we have worked so hard for.

Using the combination of these home surveillance systems you could actually protect your home well, prevent some bad things to happen or resolve them if they come to the past. It’s a success and it would be worth it if only one threatening situation is stopped or resolved. Secure your home; protect what and who you love because it is so ease to do it today and also so important.

A recent survey tells us that 24% of Americans between the ages of 18-50 are tattooed. This is almost 1 in 4. The most popular reason people get tattooed is “To broadcast what they are all about.”

Keeping this in mind, many people end up regretting the tattoo that is inked on their body. Most of the time, these people did not take the time to really think about why they choose a particular tattoo and look at other tattoo designs that are available. This is why picking out the right tattoo design from the start is important. Being impulsive has disaster written all over it.

The removal of offending tattoos is painful and expensive. Learn this lesson now or pay for it later. That is all I am going to say about this!

Here are some suggestions how to get started finding your dream tattoo design:

Don’t shop around for the cheapest studio or artist. Do shop around for the best artist within your driving range.

Why do you want a tattoo? Remember, lovers come and go. Rosie isn’t going to like “Kim” emblazoned on your chest.

A lot of people have tattoos to remember someone who passed away. You can choose a symbol or design that has meaning to them.

You may have some idea what image is special to you. But don’t worry, most people are visual and there are many tattoo design resources to browse to find the tattoo design that you really like.

The nanny spy camera is turning out to be a very popular online item for parents to buy when leaving their kids at home with babysitters. Online you may come across the most modern, most highly developed technology in the world of spying. Gadgets like these can give you the facts and offer you the peace of mind you need when something has been bothering you. If you think you need to verify the actions of your husband or wife, catch a nanny you are suspicious of, a staff member, etc then the nanny spy camera can help.

The hidden cameras you see today are made with the consumer’s needs, taste and budget. It does not matter if you are a homeowner looking to prevent theft or property damage in your home or a business owner who needs to check up on their staff, or a parent looking to give their child the best care available. You can easily find a hidden camera that fits your needs and most importantly your wallet.

The nanny spy camera is a discreet way to observe events that unfold around us without alarming the people we interact with and care about. The hidden camera is an invaluable tool for reporters seeking to acquire proof of wrongdoing, abuse, and fraud. But it can also be a dangerous tool if used for the wrong reasons.

When using a nanny cam you need to make sure you do not violate any privacy laws. Try to only use it if you truly suspect someone’s actions and you place the camera in a public area such as a kitchen or family room. If you place it in a bathroom or bedroom for example, now your intentions are open to discussion.

The price range of a nanny cam is anywhere between $150 and $500. Many online stores may even offer free shipping if you spend a certain amount. Many nanny cams come with built in DVRs, which are awesome because they run on batteries so there wont be any wires sticking out which gives the device a less suspicious look. Another advantage is that they record when you set it to record or when the camera detects movement.

A nanny spy camera can come in black and white or color. Personally I prefer color, but if your budget wont allow it, the black and white models are usually cheaper. If you only have very specific purposes for it, you may also want to look into renting a nanny spy camera for a month or so and then returning it to the dealer.

When my son was 15 months old, he had a babysitter who taught him how to put away his toys before he took something else out. One day when I was done working, I went to pick him up on my way home. As soon as he saw me, he started picking up what he was playing with, put the cover on the box and put the box on the shelf. Then he ran over and gave me a huge welcome. I was floored!

He doesn’t do that at home! My babysitter who I now thought was an angel had worked with him that week teaching him how to put things away before he took out the next toy. From that day on, I realized what my son was capable of. Now, he had put toys away before, but this was different. He did it with no help and no one had to ask him.

This little bit of independence was great for both of us. He was proud of what he was accomplishing, and I was ecstatic that I had less to pick up around the house.

I am an entrepreneur and I work from home with my children around. I struggle on a daily basis trying to decide what my priorities are for the day. I want time to move ahead with my business, yet I also want to spend time with my children. How do I find the time to get other things accomplished? It is a mother’s dream to raise children who pick up after themselves.

Now I have to admit, this idea of picking up worked better for the babysitter than it did for me, at first. However, I learned a lesson that day. My children are capable of doing things on their own if I teach them how to do it and am consistent with expecting them to be independent.

Raising independent children is helping all of us in so many ways. If my children can accomplish things on their own, then I don’t need to be distracted from what I am doing every few minutes to help them with something.

The independence seems to be helping my children as well. Instead of having to ask for something, they know they can just get it or do it themselves. They are very confident children and tend to teach their friends how to be independent, too. The more they do on their own, the more they realize they can do, and the more they want to do.

Here are some ways that I have learned to teach my children independence:

1. We have a snack cabinet in our house that I placed on a low shelf where everyone can reach. I only keep healthy snacks there. (The unhealthier ones go up high). My children must eat at designated snack times, but they are allowed to help themselves. We started this at a very young age and believe it or not, it rarely gets abused. When it does, I leave well enough alone. After all the snacks are healthy.

2. When my children ask for help with something, I way the odds. Are they asking for help because they need my attention, or are they asking for help because they really don’t think they can do it themselves?

If they are looking for attention, I give it to them. After all, nurturing is what my children need from me the most. If they think they need help but I feel they could do it themselves, I will ask them a question like, “Well, what do you think we could do to make you taller so you can reach it?” The answer would be to move over the chair and climb up. Without even answering, they just run right over and move the chair. All they needed was a simple suggestion to trigger their minds.

3. Encouragement and praise both go a long way with children (and adults, actually). Whenever the opportunity arises I encourage my children to pitch in. They love to “cook dinner”. Really they are helping me, but I try to make them feel like I am just helping them. We both gain from this experience.

No matter how small their attempt, if they give it their best shot, I praise them highly for their efforts. The more praise they receive, the more they seem to want to try.

I also make sure to thank them for doing it on their own. If what they are doing helps me, I make sure to show my appreciation for what they are doing.

Teaching independence certainly takes consistency and an effort on my part, but the results are two-fold. I find that when my children can do things for themselves, it makes my life a little easier. I am also finding that my children are learning a great deal of confidence and self-reliance in knowing that they can accomplish so much on their own. My children are learning much more about themselves and their capabilities than I ever had as a child, and we are all happy for that.
