Pregnancy can be so enjoyable and exciting. You are starting to get to know your little bundle of joy, understanding him/her just a little. Does he wake at 2 or 3 am? Does he prefer music or voices? If music does he prefer classical or country? But now before we meet him/her we have to try and choose a name for baby.

Picking a name for your baby can be very challenging. You might worry that if you choose the wrong name he’ll be bullied, or maybe she’ll flunk out of high school. Or maybe you think that if you get the right name then he’ll be a famous basketball player or she’ll discover the cure to AIDS.

Well let me tell you the name for your baby, whichever you choose, will not determine whether she is smart or dumb, whether he is athletic or geeky, but a name may change the way your child feels about themselves or the way others feel about them.

For instance the name Sarah, most people will think of her as a kind and generous girl, but the name Caitlyn strikes people as someone who is curious. People will then treat your child the way their name sounds which in turn creates a child that is like that, so Sarah will be treated like she is kind so eventually she will be kind. This shows that a name can be a very important thing to choose.

You also want to make sure you pick a name that fits your baby. Have you ever met someone name Joe who just didn’t seem like a Joe, or a Mary who seemed more like an Emma, well it happens and it is based on our perceptions of the name. So what do you do? You read as many names that you can and decide on a few you like then when you meet him or her you will be prepared and don’t feel pressured to pick one of the names you came prepared with, it may be something entirely different.
