All nannies are not created equal, however, nannies are employed by parents to care for their children in the family home, and they will be suitable for parents who need flexible childcare. No, nannies are not registered and their work is not inspected as they work at your home. Many nannies are mainly motivated by love the struggle for power usually does not exist between mother and nanny. Nannies are paid a salary or hourly wage and the family is responsible for paying the employers share of her taxes and social security. Nannies are back in vogue and people will pay anything for a good one.

Professional nannies are usually between the ages of 18 and 50, and may hold some advanced degree in early childhood development. There are a number of national and international professional associations representing nannies and nanny agencies. Both students and professional nannies will benefit from reading books on nannies. Many of today’s professional nannies attend workshops designed for parents and / or professionals who work with children. Many of the professional nannies take care of the laundry, cleaning tiding up which related to the child and some even cook for the children.

A nanny is someone experienced and/or qualified in childcare. Providing a professional and friendly service designed to offer adaptable childcare solutions to families and nurseries. There are a number of options when it comes to childcare. Family childcare providers have flexible hours and daily routines, but may work long or unusual hours to fit parents’ work schedules. Training for children is usually not required for someone to be a nanny but sometimes nannies do have some type of childcare qualification.

There are many advantages to using an Agency for both parents and Nannies if the Agency is of a high standard and reputable. When using a nanny agency, you must find out exactly what type of screening process they use to hire nannies. Working with an agency is a good option for nannies. If you’ve avoided using an agency altogether, it’ll be up to you to screen the nannies. You could also use the internet and connect with an agency that specializes in placing nannies.

When you hire a nanny they are almost like a substitute mother that will teach and nuture and keep them safe and out of harms way. Nannies are full-time caregivers that either live in your home or travel daily to your family. Many nannies are happy to work part-time. But since nannies are in very short supply, and it also cuts down on the paperwork, many employers also pay the nanny’s portion of that tax. In most cases, professional nannies are not responsible for general housekeeping. Nannies are mostly female and traditionally, the nanny was a servant of the house, who used to report directly to the lady of the house.

Your Nanny Interview – A Primer

When it comes to picking a nanny, this can be one of the most important choices that any family ends up making. After all, choosing a nanny isn’t the same as choosing a contractor or deciding who should be the person to repair the kitchen sink the next time there is a leak. This is someone who has the most important job in your house: caring for your child. And whether you are talking about an infant or a pre-teen, it makes sense that you would be concerned about the kind of care that your child would be receiving. Thus, the right kind of research, along with a clear game plan for the sort of questions you might want to ask during the initial nanny interview, makes the most amount of sense in the long run.

To start, there is deciding whether or not you want to be hiring a nanny through a nanny agency, an online nanny service, Craigslist or word-of-mouth. While there might be advantages to hiring through an agency, like extensive nanny background checks, that in no way means that you shouldn’t schedule time to conduct a nanny interview with potential candidates from an agency in the same manner that you would hire a nanny who came directly or through Craigslist.

Be sure that you are always equally diligent when it comes to checking facts and references, as it is crucial that you do that extra legwork. After all, this is someone that you are leaving to care for your children. It makes sense that, above all, you would be interested in the safest and most reliable person.

When it comes time to have your nanny interview, one of the most important things aside from knowing the right sort of nanny questions you need to be asking is that you and your spouse are on the same page about what your actual needs are. Discuss ahead of time if you are looking for a full-time or part-time nanny, if you are expecting this to be a live-in nanny position or not, and also be clear about what the budget is. If the budget and the person you want to hire simply do not match, it is not going to be something that works out for you.

When it comes time for the actual nanny interview, be sure that you ask a lot of clear questions about her style of child rearing, as well as asking if she is certified in CPR. Try to get a sense of her background, and talk about her experiences with previous employers. Above all, this person needs to be a good personality fit with you. If you’re just not clicking, it might be worthwhile to consider talking with someone else. Don’t assume that you have to settle: this is one area where settling is actually not a great idea in the least.

Is My Nanny Cam Legal?

Like many parents, you may be considering a hidden or covert camera to record the interaction and behavior of your babysitter and your children while you’re away. As you can see these so-called nanny cams or spy cams can be hidden in a variety of household objects and record activity without even a glimmer of suspicion on the part of your child care provider.

But is it legal? Are you risking criminal charges or a civil lawsuit by taping your sitter? The answer is yes, your nanny cam in most instances is perfectly legal. There are a few details which should be brought to your attention and discussed with an attorney licensed in your state if you have additional questions.

Visible video cameras (not hidden in any way) are generally not illegal if they are in a non-private place like the kitchen or living areas of your home. If the camera records sound as well as video, you must comply with federal and state wiretapping and eavesdropping laws. You will need consent of one or all parties to any recorded conversation, depending on your jurisdiction. Most states will allow you, the parent, to consent to the recording on behalf of your minor child. You will need to check on audio recording laws for more information about the necessary consent to an audio recording.

Hidden cameras (often referred to in the media as nanny cams or spy cams) are still usually okay from a legal point of view, unless the babysitter has a reasonable expectation of privacy. There is a federal law which makes it a crime to secretly capture photo or video images of people in places and situations in which they have an expectation of privacy, such as bathrooms, dressing rooms, locker rooms, hotel rooms and tanning salons. Most states now have similar laws. So, you definitely can’t record the nanny in the bathroom and probably not in her bedroom if she lives in with your family.

Most experts agree that you shouldn’t wait until you suspect some sort of abuse or neglect of your child before getting a nanny cam. If you install one before the nanny is hired and inform her that she may be monitored, your nanny cam may act as a deterrent to misconduct or abuse instead of an investigative tool. In fact, many nannies have no problem with nanny camera monitoring as long as they know about it or at least about the possibility that it is there. They often are offended however by secret, hidden cameras.

So, at the end of the day, you will need to balance the legal and ethical issues related to nanny cam recording. Reasonable video surveillance, especially if done without sound, is legal in every state as long as you stay out of the bathroom and the bedroom. Now you’ve just got to decide whether or not to disclose the existence and/or location of the camera to the babysitter before you switch it on.

Nanny jobs are popular amongst those who come here on working visas from other countries. They are also considered to be good jobs by many local young women who do not want to go on to further study at university. Some people consider that a nanny job is a good way of experiencing different lifestyles, such as in the outback or for country girls, city life.

Others hope to land a nanny job that will take them overseas or to some resort as they babysit the children of couples who like to travel. Many nanny jobs in Sydney can be found by applying at relevant nanny agencies.

But from the perspective of an employer, what should you look for when choosing a nanny? You don’t really want to relinquish the care of your precious baby or children to someone whose sole reason for taking the job is to see the world. You need to know they are not only capable of tending to your children, but that they will actually like doing it – as well as having the correct qualifications to do so properly.

Most nanny agencies only take on placing nannies that are both qualified and experienced. That is, even though it might be a nanny’s first job, she will have had experience with taking care of siblings or in baby-sitting the neighbour’s children. But even though nannies are vetted by these agencies, it is still a good idea to ask your own questions of any prospective nannies before you hire them.

You need to know exactly why they want to become a nanny and what experience they have. But asking them what they have learned about young children during their other nanny jobs will give you a fair idea of how they cope with naughty behaviour. Don’t hesitate to ask any other personal questions, but also be prepared to answer them. The serious nanny will want to know what her future may hold – e.g. more children.

Having a babysitter for your children is something you want to avoid, but later discovered that you really cannot. Don’t worry, all parents feel this way and the truth is that there are times that you will have to leave the house and leave your kids behind. Here are some instructions and information for your new babysitter.

First, let’s assume that the babysitter is someone you know and trust and you have checked their resume and previous work. Now the sitter should learn some things about your house, the way your family does things and the way the house is organized. First, show how the doors lock and unlock and make sure everything is understood. This way she will not be locked outside every time the kids play at the patio. Then show the emergency kit and especially the place you keep flashlights or matches and other things that may be needed. You should also post a list with contact numbers at the wall. If you have emergency alarms or other systems you use, make sure you explain everything adequately.

Now that you have covered the emergencies, you should move to the special needs of your children. If the babysitter is taking care of an infant, make sure you go over everything your baby needs. Explain how many times she will feed the baby, how she is going to change it, if she is allowed to give the baby a bath and make sure you answer all the questions she has as well. If your children are older, discuss certain rules like bed time, television programs, snacks and food preparation. Make sure the babysitter knows where to find the things that might be necessary. You should also tell her if your children are allergic to something or if they are on medication.

Another thing you should know is that if your children are very young, they might feel anxious about having a stranger on the house. The best thing to do is to leave an activity schedule that they should all follow. This has two advantages. First the children stick to their routine and feel comfortable and safe knowing that they will do what they do every evening and have someone watch over them until you return. Second you are also aware of what is going on and so chances of playing a dangerous game or being bored and start to fight are limited.

The last thing that you should make clear is rules that the babysitter should follow. For example tell her if she is allowed to talk on the phone or bring friends to your house. Tell her if she is allowed to watch television or smoke in front of the children or inside the house in general. Tell her if she is allowed to leave the house and take the children for a walk. In other words, don’t leave things to chance. Make a strict program that everyone should follow.
