This is essential for all aspiring babysitters and is the first thing families ask when they need a babysitter. Here, babysitters are taught how to take care of the physical needs of the child such as nutrition and meal preparation, bathing and changing his clothes and diapers, how to hold an infant and how to handle bedtime.

2. Stages in Child Development

In this section, babysitters learn to recognize the various stages of normal child growth and development at his chronological age; they also learn how to evaluate the extent of the child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social development in accordance with the norms.

3. Safety and Prevention of Accidents and Injuries

In the safety segment, they learn how to identify hazards in and around the house and how to eliminate the risks to the child. Examples are dirty surroundings which contribute to the spread of disease and infection, physical features and items that can cause accidents by tripping or falling or ingestion of poisonous matter.

4. First-aid and Emergency Skills

Here, they taught how to act in emergency cases needing first-aid such as bleeding control techniques, rescue breathing, choking as well as resuscitation. You will also know whom to call for help.

5. Games and Play Activities

This will teach babysitters what appropriate games and playtime activities may be given to the child depending on his age and how to use daily events as educational tools for the child.

Taking the time, effort and cost in hiring competent babysitters or child care providers will eventually pay off when you see your child growing up happy and smart. Sometimes, it’s all up to the babysitter.
