After witnessing the wonderful nature of a baby being born, one of the obvious priority following that will be to think of a name and to decide if that very name, that has been chosen, should be given to a newborn child. Now of course some would have already thought about this earlier on what name they will like to give to their baby and maybe some would of have thought about this many, many months ago before the infant was even born but nevertheless whatever the time it might have been or will be of when the name was or should be thought about by the parent(s) and if it should be given or not might be a difficult task on what name to choose since there is virtually hundreds or even thousands upon thousands of names. I am going to hopefully try to help you guys to solving your problem if you are experiencing that difficulty.

Well maybe there’s not much to say, a person should just avoid choosing a name with an odd meaning or the name shouldn’t sound hopefully strange enough that will cause the child boy or child girl to be bullied, whether in school or anywhere else or it might just make the person ‘naturally’ from themselves to not like their own name for whatever reason they might have like it might not sound good, look good and/or feel good to them.

Anyway here are some Baby names that could be or maybe some already are top names for the year 2011: Alivia, Ashley, Stella, Ruby, Rylee, Chriselda, Ella, Emma

And for boys maybe Jett, Bellamy, Nicolas, Eaton, Ephraim, Oliver.

Baby Bedding 101

Like my wife and I, many soon-to-be parents are in a constant state of preparation to receive the new, beautiful life about to enter the world. We read the books, listened to the CD’s and tried to talk to everyone and anyone with children, about where to start. There was so much new information to consider and new emotions to understand. We’ve tried to help take all the guess work out of buying baby bedding and simplify the process to make it fun and exciting for you and your partner. Here’s a simply list to help you start choosing your baby bedding.

Start with the style you’re going for.

The first step in choosing your baby bedding is to consider the overall theme and style you want to achieve. The infants bedding will set the tone for the rest of the decorations in his or her room. Start with the theme based on searching for boy or girl bedding. Sounds obvious, but it is the most important place to begin. The most popular bedding styles are: boy/girl themed, modern/trendy, traditional, neutral, animals, floral and cartoon characters. Talk with your partner and decide which best suites your style. Once you choose the style, everything else along the process is simply narrowing down your likes and dislikes. Baby bedding is about your likes and dislikes because your little one won’t have much of an opinion.

Decide your price range.

Make sure you look at your budget and decide how much you’re able to spend before looking. There will be lots of choices in choosing baby bedding and you want to ensure you’re ready to avoid the temptation to over spend. Another consideration before choosing a price range is the level of quality and comfort. Keep in mind infant bedding that is more affordable can also be compromising quality and longevity. I recommend setting your price rang somewhere in the middle, if you’re unable to spend a lot of money on your baby bedding.

Shop, shop, shop.

Now that you have in mind the style and the price you’re able to afford, it’s time to shop till you drop. Look around for the best price possible. One thing my wife and I always do is try to find the exact item we want at a lower price by searching the internet till we complete our mission. If at first, you don’t see anything that hits the spot, keep looking because you’re bound to find that perfect baby bedding, made for your little angel.

Hopefully, this settles some uncertainty when it comes to buying your infants bedding. Most of the items you’ll be purchasing over the next months can follow this same three step process. It is exciting and fun to create your baby’s room, so have a blast making it happen!

How to Make a Smart Baby

If intelligence is the ability to learn, then babies are born geniuses! While babies’ brains have the potential to learn just about anything, parents have an important part to play in determining just how much – and how easily – their baby learns. Here, we discuss the key issues to bear in mind when teaching your baby.

A unique window of opportunity: five months’ gestation to five years of age

The younger the brain, the more malleable it is – that’s why small children are like sponges. The brain builds itself by forming connections in response to the stimulation it receives. A baby begins responding to sound during month five in the womb, when her sense of hearing becomes fully developed. This means that learning begins before birth.

After birth, the brain continues wiring itself in response to the baby’s experiences of the world. Learning is faster and more effortless than it will ever be again. Acquiring our native language from birth guarantees proficiency, regardless of how linguistically gifted we turn out to be as adults – and the same holds true for other subjects. Everyone can become proficient in reading, math or music, so long as they begin learning as babies.

– Babies love to learn!

Babies’ brains are hardwired for learning, making babies the most avid students in the world. What’s more, babies and small children carry none of the baggage that comes from being sent to school and being subjected to quizzes, tests and examinations. For babies, learning is pure enjoyment.

– Teaching should never be forced

Regular practice is important, but not to the point of forcing. Above all, your child should enjoy the learning process. Hold lessons only when he is receptive, and end them before he loses interest.

– Play is essential

Babies and children need time to explore the world around them, pick up objects and examine them, and get to grips with the laws of nature. Your baby should spend the majority of her waking hours engaged in hands-on play.

– Relax and have fun!

Avoid focusing on having your child achieve specific knowledge goals. Treat lesson time instead as an opportunity for strengthening the parent-child bond. Teaching your baby should never become a source of stress for either one of you. If you feel this is happening, reevaluate your approach or trim down the lesson program as necessary.

Help! I don’t have time

Teaching babies used to be a time-heavy commitment, with parents having to make their own flash cards and other materials. These days, high-quality book-, DVD- and software-based programs mean that no lesson preparation is required. As for giving lessons, this takes as little as five minutes per day.

If you use DVD or software-based programs, be aware that babies should only look at a screen for short periods of time. In this article on TV + Computers, you can find out more on making TV and computer use safe and beneficial for babies.

Help! I don’t know where to start

With so much information available, it can be tough to know where to begin. Working parents, don’t despair – you can glean the basics of baby education in just 10 minutes from our Busy Parent’s Guide. From there, getting going is a breeze – and don’t be afraid to start small. It’s the right program if it works for you and your baby!

Teaching Your Baby To Read

As increasing numbers of children are learning to read words by the age of one, and books by age three, the idea that children can only begin reading from age five or six has come into serious question. Children who’ve learnt to read as babies have a much easier time reading in the first and second grade. What’s more, almost all babies love to read!

Working parents often look for babysitters because their demanding jobs restrict them from taking care of their kids all the day. The flyer and ads shouting Babysitter Wanted is circulated by such parents who are worried about their little ones care once they are out to work. Hiring babysitting services is beneficial for all the parents whether they are working or not.

A babysitter gives immense relief to a mother who can complete the house chore knowing that someone is there to take care of her baby. And probably for this reason, the demand for qualified and experienced babysitters is continuously growing.

Babysitting is certainly not a profession but it’s not a mean job either. Parents pay handsome salaries to deserving babysitter and for this reason many women are ready to baby sit for that extra cash. But as a careful parent you need to take care of certain factors before appointing a stranger the caretaker of your baby. Once you flash the ad babysitter wanted, you would be approached by many ladies that would be willing to take care of your kid provided you give them the amount they are asking for. Though you can select one of the candidates but it would be much better if you could look into their past life, scan their trade experience and ask the candidates to prove their reliability before making a final choice.

The babysitter should have clean past record since no one would like to appoint a *** offender, burglar or former drunk to mind his kids. To ensure that you are hiring an honest and kind babysitter, you can ask to furnish some references that you can contact and ask about babysitter’s behavior. Before placing the Babysitter Wanted advertisement, also determine the age, qualification and experience of the babysitter you are looking for.

If you want to escape all the hassle and get a trustworthy caring babysitter then use an online babysitter providing company. There are numerous companies which you can search using Babysitter Wanted phrase. The online companies can get you the babysitter you can ever find. When using services of a babysitting company, you don’t need to verify their past record or any reference. Like others, you can too rely on the firm and appoint one of the babysitters recommended by the company. This is the most convenient way to look for someone who can take care of your child.

Are you just a runner? Or are you a runner with children? Being able to keep to your running schedule can be difficult if you have children. The jogging double strollers available on the market today can easily solve that problem. Choosing the best double jogger for your situation is vital. While you are looking, consider the accessories you may want to add to make the ride more pleasant and safe for parent and children.

Sun and Wind Shield

This is extremely important. Sun damage to young skin and eyes can be very serious. And while you think your children are protected with the canopies, you are behind the stroller and at a different angle to the sun than your children so you just really don’t know how protected they may be. To be safe, add a mesh sun shield that reduces the UNV/UVB rays. This will also protect them from the wind as well as flying insects. These should come with a durable frame that has an elastic attachment for easy on and off.

Remember – the sun can cause damage year-round – not just in the summer.

Weather Shield

This is usually made from PVC with clear windows and is waterproof. This way, if you are a dedicated runner, you can take your children out no matter the weather and they will be kept dry. Make sure the shield is vented for good airflow. You don’t want to create a sauna for your kiddies. Attachment should be simple so you will want to use it.

Infant Car Seat Adapter

Most jogging stroller manufacturers recommend that your child be at least 8 months before you place them in the seat, and then, you must make sure they are well supported. Some companies will state 1+ as the recommended age. An alternative is to find a stroller that has infant car seat adapters available. Then you must make sure that adapter fits the car seat you have. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new car seat just to fit the stroller.

Do take extra caution if you are jogging with infants.

Seat Pads

Adding a padded seat insert will make your children more comfortable. Using one made of fleece or faux lambskin will help to keep them warm in the colder weather. Be sure to bundle them up in colder weather.

Entertainment

Many strollers these days come with MP3 capability so that you can plug in your MP3 player to help keep your children entertained.

Storage

Most jogging double strollers have storage under the seat and a pocket in the back of the seat. Because molded trays add to the drag of your running and often create a rattle while you run, you might consider a soft handle console that has cup holders and smaller pockets for keys, wallets, etc.

Southerners are most certainly known for their deep-rooted traditions. These traditions avail themselves in all areas of southern life, including their names. When it comes to baby names, the southern parent is likely to go either very traditional or quite contemporary. It’s fun to discover the roots of these southern baby name traditions to give us all a better understanding of their meanings.

Since the southern states were settled, people have been proud of their heritage and ancestry. When it comes to names, it’s easy to see these traditions being carried on for generations. One of the most common southern traditions is passing down names through generations. Last names, middle names and first names might be used in a family for hundreds of years. Not always passed down as “juniors” for male children, many women have names like this as well. Passing down southern baby names is a great way to show how proud you are of where you come from and pay respect to your ancestors.

With the surge in modern names, southerners are often choosing a more contemporary mode for naming baby. Often, they combine a modern name with one from the family to give the tradition a new life. For boys, names like Jackson, Noah, Jayden, Ethan, and Landon are popular contemporary baby names. Girls might be named Emma, Ava, Isabella, Chloe, or Abigail. These names certainly still have a slightly old-fashioned flair while still giving a contemporary life to baby’s name. Southern baby names are fun and unusual, but mostly just show how much thought they put into choosing these names. There are few things more important than one’s name, so it makes sense that the southern parent wants to give their baby just the right name. Whether they go with a family name or add a new name to the family, baby names are fun and adorable.

You’ll have a variety of different safety surfacing options including pour-in-place rubber, rubber mulch, rubber chips, wood fiber strips, artificial grass and compressed rubber tile. Now there is a difference when it comes to safety and durability. I’ll rank each type of surfacing on a scale of 1-5 from high, medium high, medium low and low (1) being the least safe or durable

5 for High

4 for Medium high

3 for Medium

2 for Medium low

1 for Low

(1) Wood fiber strips are the traditional surfacing material that has been used in playground safety for many years. However the durability is low with wood fiber, many playgrounds have surfacing that is moved or spread throughout a park causing a risk for fall heights. Many people who provide playground maintenance find that they often need to replace the wood strips several times a year. I give wood fiber strips a safety rating of 2 and a durability rating of 3.

(2) Pour-in-place was a growing trend in safety surfacing a few years ago because of its immobility and design options. You will find rounded edges or names that are designed into pour-in-place surfacing as well as different colors. The disadvantage with pour-in-place is that it will ***** and fade within three years or less. You will also begin to see holes in the top layer (there are two layers) where the rubber has been worn. This is of extreme concern due to safety regulations on the minimum depth of surfacing for a given fall height. Since pour-in-place is fairly new, we’ve only seen this lack of durability within the past few years causing many people to stay away from this type of safety surfacing. I give pour-in-place a safety rating of 3 and a durability rating of 2.

(3) Rubber mulch is becoming the next generation of wood fiber – the same people that make this also make larger chunks that they refer to as rubber chips. Recycled material is sent through a unique process that cleans and colors the rubber so that it is completely safe for children and has color that lasts as much as seven years. I give rubber mulch and rubber chips a safety rating of 4 and a durability rating of 4.

(4) Artificial turf has been around for a while with some good improvements. The material is placed onto a base of spongy beads that act as a layer of cushioning, much like tilled dirt. Unlike dirt though – this base provides long-lasting safety for anyone who might fall and it allows water to flow freely throughout so that the turf doesn’t have water damage. I give artificial turf a safety rating of 4 and a durability rating of 5.

(5) Rubber Tiles are a well-established high-quality surfacing material. There’s only one manufacturer of rubber tiles that I would recommend: SofSurfaces has a patented locking system between tiles that created one massive surface for playground safety. This material is also very durable – SafSurfaces provides a solid 7 year guarantee on not only the color but the depth also. That’s THREE TIMES longer than the first three safety surfacing options. I give rubber tiles a safety rating of 5 and a durability rating of 5. If you budget allows – this is the ideal choice.

If only hiring a nanny were as easy as opening your door and having Super Nanny walk in and take charge. Of course, when it comes to Reality TV, the families are carefully chosen from among thousands of eager applicants. In the real world, however, you, the family, has to choose the nanny. Where to begin?

Nanny or Daycare?

Your first step would be deciding which option fits better for you and your family. Should you hire a nanny or send your children to daycare? One plus for daycare is the opportunity for your children to learn socialization. They may learn some social rules earlier, such as sharing. Another plus, which came out in a recent study by the National Institutes of Health, is that children in high-quality daycare before kindergarten had higher scores in vocabulary in the fifth grade.

The downside of daycare, which also came out in the same study, was the correlation between daycare and increased behavior problems later in school, although the report stated that both the increase in behavior problems and vocabulary was small.

For many people, there are other advantages to hiring a nanny over daycare:

o Health – infections in one child can be easily spread to the other children in daycare. At home with a nanny there is less exposure to other sick children.

o Personal Attention – children will receive more personal attention from a nanny than when in a daycare setting.

o Flexibility – hiring a nanny can be more suitable for parents who leave early or arrive home late and do not want their child to be shuffled from one caregiver to another. A nanny can also take care of a child who is ill whereas daycares often, for the health of other children, refuse care to children who are sick.

What to Look for in a Nanny

So you’ve made the decision that hiring a nanny is a better child-care solution for your child and family situation – now what? How do you go about finding a qualified nanny?

There are many places to look for a nanny, such as placing an ad in the classified section of the newspaper, referrals from friends, or an agency which specializes in nannies and other domestic workers. Going the agency route may be a bit more expensive, but agencies usually have a screening process in place and do their own background checks. If you choose to place an ad in the newspaper or use a referral from a friend, it’s always wise to do your own background check.

Before interviewing prospective nannies, know exactly what type of services you are seeking. Do you want a live-in nanny, day-time nanny, full-time, part-time or on call? What is your budget? Will you want the nanny to clean the house, cook meals or transport your children to after-school activities or play dates? What other responsibilities are you looking for in a nanny? This can help when it comes time for the interview.

What Should You Ask?

When interviewing the prospective nanny do ask for the following:

1) References with contact numbers. In addition to personal references, ask for references from other families she’s worked for.

2) Driver’s license or other I.D. You want to know everything’s current.

3) Any traffic tickets or accidents in her past? If driving your children to activities is important, you want to know her driving history. If she’s using her own car you also want to know that it is in good working order.

4) Educational experience. Does she have any special training such as childhood education, cooking, etc.

5) Knowledge of first-aid. Many parents want a nanny who knows how to administer first aid such as CPR. You also want to know if the nanny knows how to tend to your children should they become sick.

6) What is her parenting style? What is her approach to behavior issues?

7) What type of activities will she engage the child in?

8) Ask about her least-pleasant experience as a nanny. If the situation sounds a lot like your family situation (perhaps the parents often worked late) then perhaps this isn’t the nanny for you.

When you find someone you think has potential, do arrange a meeting between the prospective nanny and your children. Observe how they react to one another. Does the prospective nanny seem warm and natural to your children, or anxious and tense? Your observation is a great tool in selecting the right person to take care of your children.

Choosing Between Cradle and Crib?

Choosing between cradle and crib when caring for the baby has a few more complexities than what we have previously discussed. Let’s take a more in depth look.

Parents have a variety of choices when it comes to baby supplies. These are being chosen based on functionality and comfort. When it comes to the baby’s first bed, cradle and crib are the top 2 choices. These are specifically designed to care for the newborns by making sure they will sleep sound without the danger of falling off. Parents are given an option to buy crib or cradle or both to provide their babies the greatest comfort possible. However, with advanced technology, manufacturers have come up with dual functionality furniture. With some effort you can find a cradle that converts to a crib as the baby grows. Some even convert further into a bed.

Spending a huge amount of money for 2 different pieces of furniture is no longer necessary. This can save parents money and space in their room or nursery. These “rocking-cribs” are usually made from solid hardwood for maximum security, waterproof pad, and position pins that are used to secure the furniture in a stationary position.

Furniture companies are introducing new designs for rocking-cribs every year by offering a variety of choices that are perfect for any themed nursery or home. There are some that can be converted not only to cradle and crib but also to full sized toddler beds. Cost ranges from $300-$900 which is considered relatively inexpensive for getting a piece of furniture that can serve multiple purposes.

To protect the baby, make sure that the crib meets the safety standards set forth by the federal government in 1973. This simply states that a manufacturer should produce cribs with 2 3/8 inche slats to protect the baby’s head from slipping through. The drop side should be a minimum of 26 inches and 9 inches from the mattress.

To keep infants from falling, get a crib model that has good height adjustment. This can be set on the highest point that is perfect for newborns and can be gradually lowered as the baby learns to stand and walk. The crib’s interior should measure 52 inches long and 28 inches wide. Make sure to purchase mattress or bedding that is slightly smaller on the mentioned sizes.

When buying antique cribs, make sure it was manufactured after 1973. This will guarantee that it meets the safety standards that can greatly protect the babies from accidents.

Another reason for avoiding an antique crib is the lead paint risk. Babies naturally choose to chew on anything within site and that includes the crib. If you plan on using an antique or used crib, make certain that you prepare and refinish the surface properly eliminating any possibility that the furniture may still have any traces of lead paint.
Also, if you plan on refinishing the furniture yourself, make certain that you wear the appropriate breathing apparatus. Better yet, take the furniture pieces to a reputable furniture refinisher who is prepared for all contingencies.

In choosing the bedding, get an innerspring mattress or firm foam. Make sure it is not too soft or too dense for the baby to sleep on. Also, protect the babies from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome by getting breathable mattresses that have ventilation holes. It is important not to use comforters over the bedding to avoid suffocation. To reduce the risk of allergies or asthma, get hypoallergenic mattresses that are equally comfortable. In addition, do not forget to keep the crib and the mattress clean at all times.

Here are some tips in keeping the crib or cradle a safe place for your baby:

1. Keep the crib/cradle bedding splinter free and smooth.

2. Keep the crib hazardous-free by removing stuffed toys, pillows, and quilts.

3. Regularly check the crib for loose screws that can pose a danger to infants.

4. Keep the baby crib away from electrical plugs, windows, extension cords, and curtains.

Choosing the furniture for babies is critical toward avoiding accidents that may seriously injure the little ones. In 1978, one furniture manufacturing company was sued for selling cribs that were posing potential danger to babies. Knowing how to avoid these kinds of furniture can take the infant’s safety on a higher level. Parents should be well informed on how to properly choose baby furniture and accessories to make sure their babies will be healthier and more secure.

Cradles and cribs are the first beds of most babies in United States. Today, defining their similarities and advantages is becoming difficult because their functionalities are being combined to offer parents furniture that will meet their needs in finding a safe and comfortable place for their babies into the future.

Naming a baby can be a bit of a minefield nowadays. Many modern parents want their child to bear a name they can be proud of but at the same time they wish the name to be significant in some way to themselves.

It is always difficult to know where the line of silliness occurs. Bob Geldof and Paula Yates famously named their daughters Fifi Trixiebell, Pixie, Peaches and Heavenly Hirana Tiger Lily (uh?) but they surely could not have thought at the time they were doing their children any favours. All of their lives these girls will be explaining to strangers why they are called such exotic names and answering questions such as ‘does it bother you having an unusual name?’ or ‘do you resent your parents for calling you this name?’ instead of being assessed on first impression on their own merit and interest.

Whatever your thoughts and views are on names, there are a few basic rules to use as a guideline when choosing a name for a new baby. To begin with, try not to use ridiculous names dug up from a Dickensian novel, such as Barnaby or Dorrit or Euriah – the poor kid will never live it down. Names that are shorter and always more attractive when paired with a longer surname, e.g. Pippa Storington-Neaves, or John Stradivariou. Alternatively, longer Christian or first name look better with short followers, e.g. Gwendolyn Catt; St John More, Bartholomew Watts.

Consider your child
