How do you pick a babysitter?

Cate asked:

A few of my friends have children that are of babysitting age (thirteen and older), and I’m looking for a sitter for my three so my husband and I can go to a dinner for a friend of ours from 5 to 9 at night. It’s coming in a few weeks, but I know watching three kids will be a lot for a teenager! My children are six, three, and six months.

Should I ask a friend to watch them, even though I’d rather them be at home so my older two can go to bed at a reasonable time? Plus, most of my friends have kids of their own and it’s kinda selfish to ask them to watch the kids for a few hours.

I normally ask my 17 year old sister to, but she has a party that night! And the second person on my list is my fifteen year old cousin. Will three children be too much for her? Plus, how much should I pay?

Sorry that was so long! I’m so stressed! Haha :D Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! I’m so nervous. Haha. This is the first time I’ve left them with anyone but my mom or sis.

Pick the babysitter for tonight?

Girls are sexy asked:

You and your husband/wife wanna go out for a movie but don’t want to take the kids(R rated movie)
Who’s gonna watch the kids for you?

Me-
I love children. I’ll let them watch cartoons and cuddle up with me.
They can fall asleep in my lap if they want. I’ll bring popcorn and some cookies.

Richard Simmons-
Wants to reduce the obesity rate and doesn’t like when kids eat junk food. Plus he likes to do lots of exercises to get that heart going. The kids have to wear workout wear when exercising though.

Kurt Angle-
Has his own way of disciplining kids who cause trouble.
8:00pm is bedtime and that’s the bottom line.

Someone earlier asked a question about employing house staff- people that care for the children, clean their home, and, do lawn care. I am amazed at how many people are outraged by this issue. I understand it if it was because they were employing the undocumented, but, calling her lazy because she elects to have someone else do these things? Is it because she is employing the undocumented, or, do you generally look down upon people that hire help?

Guidance on the issue of babysitter poaching and nanny napping from Shelia Lirio Marcelo, Founder and CEO of Care.com. “Babysitter Poaching and Nanny Napping. Your babysitter is the envy of all your friends- congratulations! But what happens when one of them asks to borrow her? Here’s some advice to consider. First, don’t jump to conclusions. Your friend asked to borrow your sitter and your immediate inclination is to say no but if your friends needs help just for one night, perhaps you can share the wealth! Second, provide a plan B. Turn your defense into offense. See if you can help your friend find another option, maybe even a friend of your sitter. And third, consider your babysitter’s bottom line. At the end of the day, she has bills too. If you’re only using her part time it might help her to get some extra hours with your friends family. Just be sure she knows how important she is to your family. She’ll appreciate your concern for her needs.

Every time I see this show, they pick nanny debb…. Is it some kind of joke that they actually pick? I’ve seriously never seen an episode where they don’t use nanny Debb.

And not to knock Debb, she’s really good at what she does and I enjoy watching the show.

A really good friend of mine is in the army and is going to be getting custody of his son. He is no longer deployable due to a medical issue. He works as a dispatcher so when he is working and sleeping he needs someone to take care of the baby. Because he is a dispatcher he works swing shift so when he is working night shift he obviously sleeps during the day and needs someone to care for his child. His mother asked me to find out about the possibility of a live in nanny before she mentions anything to him about it. He lives in on base housing and i cant seem to find any information anywhere on if it would be allowed. And if it is allowed what are the regulations, is there any assistance such as does he pay or does the army, what would the round about pay be if he did have to pay out of pocket, and would he be able to choose his own nanny or would the army assign one, what qualifications does the nanny need, and because he is male will it have to be a male nanny? He does currently live in a 3 bedroom home (on base) so the nanny would have his or her own room. There is someone from his home town who is willing to move down there and take the job. The baby already knows this person, is experienced in childcare, knows this child’s needs (allergies, diet, sleep and eating schedule, etc.), and is trusted by the entire family. Actually she almost is family, thats just how close she is to the entire family. Any information would be very helpful. Thank you!
