Finding a babysitter who can do various household tasks doesn’t have to take ages. A babysitter’s primary responsibility is to care for your kids. Therefore, most of her tasks will be associated with this area.

There are certain responsibilities parents should expect from their babysitter. When finding a babysitter, the first thing you should do is to observe the basics. Find out if your babysitter knows how to correctly respond to an emergency. Do this by asking her “what if” questions. For instance, “what if you smell something burning and suspect a fire?” Your babysitter should be able to utilize emergency contact numbers. She should have at least some knowledge of first aid practices, and ask you where the first aid kit is stored in your home.

Other basic responsibilities of your babysitter should include applying your rules and plans for the kids. She should be willing and able to follow through with the house rules and schedules. Moreover, most regular babysitters are willing to offer your kids with some activities to keep them occupied. Look for a babysitter who genuinely loves kids. Other basic responsibilities include feeding the kids, dispensing medications, and putting the kids to bed. If your potential babysitter is willing to apply all these basic responsibilities, then that is a good initial sign that you’ll be hiring a suitable babysitter for your family.

To have a good understanding of the babysitting tasks you will want to discuss precisely what will be involved. If a candidate is not upfront with elucidating the specific tasks for the job, ascertain that you ask about them. Some babysitting jobs will simply require watching and playing with the kids. Others will involve more extensive tasks such as driving, changing diapers, cooking, doing light housework and cleaning. When finding a babysitter who can do various household tasks, make sure you have your checklist ready. This is so you can right away inquire if any of the services you want are available.

There is a sea of different covert cameras on the market today that it can be very easy to get confused and unsure of what to choose. Using nanny spy cameras have become an integral part of parenting especially for moms and dads who couldn’t be with their children 24 hours a day. With a camera well hidden among the things usually found in a residence, it will be possible for parents to still monitor their children’s activities and their nanny’s working habits even when they are out of the house.

So of all the nanny cameras available in the market, which should you choose? When trying to look for a nanny cam to use, it is necessary to find out as much as you can about these devices first. Having basic knowledge of covert cameras and how they work will make you a more practical buyer.

Asking yourself a few relevant questions can help point you to the right nanny spy cameras. Here are some of the questions that can help get you started:

1. What is your budget? You have to determine your available budget first so that you will have an idea of the type of covert camera to get. These devices are not as expensive as they used to be but you should still set a limit on how much you can spend. The cost of these gadgets vary. You can buy a reliable desk clock covert camera for less than $100 USD but more expensive nanny cams may cost you $250 USD or more. Setting a budget can also narrow down your choices as it will eliminate devices which are too expensive to the point that it is impractical or too cheap that it could be unreliable.

2. Do you want a covert camera that can be hidden in the open? If you look at the choices, you will notice that these devices are actually cleverly designed to look like regular items one can see in a home. There are speakers, iPod docks, books, mirrors, tissue holders, decorative pieces, clocks, etc. If you prefer nanny spy cameras which can be displayed but still not give away their real purpose, you can choose a device with such design. For example, you can opt for a spy cam that looks and works like an alarm clock. This device won’t look lost in a bedroom and can capture good videos while sitting innocently on top of a bedside table. There are also toys like teddy bears that conceal tiny cameras which are perfect in kids’ bedrooms.

3. How do you like to view recorded footage? There are nanny spy cameras that let you watch a monitored area live via remote viewing and for this you will need a computer with internet access. These devices work pretty much like CCTV cameras where everything the camera sees can be viewed from another location i.e. from your office computer. Most hidden cameras store footage in a removable SD card that allows you to view videos on your computer or TV.

4. Are you particular about image quality? If you want recorded videos to have top quality resolution, you may want to opt for more expensive devices. However, there are still more affordable devices with good quality video and image resolution.

These questions should get you started with looking for the right nanny spy cameras. Don’t forget to consider other important things like the laws governing the use of covert cameras in your area, country or state. You should also take the time to read reviews about hidden camera products and find out what other consumers are saying about them.

So you need someone to watch your children and have decided to look into online babysitting services. However, there are so many to choose from, including Sittercity.com, Care.com, Care4Hire.com, GoNannies.com, AuPairCare.com and 4Sitters.com, that it is overwhelming. To find the best fit for you and your family, you need to check out an assortment of sites. Each one will vary in everything from their fees and services, to their applicant filtering system and reputation, to the number of caregivers in their database. Some even provide contact information for pet sitters, housekeepers, tutors and eldercare services.

There are two ways in which online babysitting services work. With the first method, parents post a job and then the sitters who are interested and nearby contact them. This may be done via email or telephone. The parents can then respond accordingly. With the other method, parents can look at the profiles of potential babysitters and then contact the best ones. When searching, you get immediate access to babysitters. Simply type in your zip code and a list of local sitters pops up. When you click on a sitter, you may get a brief bit of information or their entire profile.

Some sites will let you preview and look for sitters without registering, so you can see the options. However, if you want to get the contact information, you need to be a member. Subscriptions may be paid for on a monthly or yearly basis. The best sites will give you a free trial period, perhaps for a week, so you can try it out first. If you like it, you often have to pay an initial registration fee, in addition to the subscription costs.

Be aware that not all sites do the same things. Some may simply interview the babysitters to create a profile but do not check references. Others provide the option of doing extensive background checks. However, it may cost extra or require you to increase your membership level. The best sites will have a multi-step screening process. In addition, the online babysitting services should have comments or referrals from people the caregivers have worked for in the past.

Most online babysitting sites also have a search filter that lets the parents narrow down the candidates. For instance, if you have a child with special needs, you can locate a babysitter who has previous experience with this type of child or someone with specific medical certifications. This search filter will help you save time. They can also help you find back-up sitters at the last minute, in case the scheduled sitter gets sick or you get an unexpected dinner invitation. Some sites, like Sittercity.com, even offer nannycam and video monitoring options.

The Baby Bjorn Babysitter Balance is a “no-frills” bouncer for babies. No frills because it doesn’t come with a toy bar, music, lights or a lot of other accessories. However, don’t dismiss the lack of accessories as meaning that the product is somehow inferior. Most parents want the best baby gear for their baby – especially the first one. And, if you select correctly, you’d probably be able to use it for however many you plan to have.

One of the appealing features of bouncers is that they tend to soothe fussy babies, and still let them be a part of the family. But is this one the right one for your baby? Let’s check it out.

Safety is the first consideration when selecting a bouncer. So let’s ask a few questions about the Babysitter Balance.

Does it…

…feature a base that is wider than the seat? Yes, the 16-inch x 32-inch base anchors the product nicely.

…have a base with a non-skid surface? Yes, the new plastic footrest has anti-glide strips which keep the Babysitter firmly in place.

…resist tipping when rocked side-to-side? Yes, it only bounces up-and-down.

…tend to stay in place when it bounces? Yes, the anti-glide strips keep the bouncer in place.

…tout a 3- or 5-point safety harness? Yes, it has a padded 3-point harness.

…have a toy bar that stays in place if a baby bats it? Yes, the wooden toy bar (sold separately) attaches in such a way that the child cannot remove it.

…have toys firmly secured to the bar so that they won’t break off? Yes

…have sharp edges? No, there are no sharp edges; in fact the whole frame is nicely rounded.

The fabric is a second feature that appeals to many parents. It sports a guarantee that it is harmless to baby’s skin and won’t trigger allergies.

The third reason many parents choose this product is because the fabric is not only non-allergenic, it is completely washable in warm water; however, the manufacturer recommends that it be air dried.

Parents, looking for a product that supports the child well, like the ergonomic design of the bouncer. It features a molded seat that distributes the baby’s weight evenly – a fourth reason to seriously consider this one.

A fifth consideration is that it is powered by the baby himself – hence no need for batteries or looking for a plug-in.

One mother, though skeptical about the cost, decided to shell out the dollars anyway. She does not regret her decision.

Are you wondering how much to your babysitter should be paid to watch your children? You’re hardly alone. As parents struggle find great childcare, it is hard to know what is a good amount to pay for him or her.

There are a number of factors which will go into this decision. These include your location, how experienced the sitter (or prospective sitter) is and how many children they will be tending to.

Recent surveys have shown the hourly rates paid to babysitters range between $5 and $15. To find the going rate in your neighborhood, just ask around and find what your neighbors are paying their babysitter.

One you know what the average rate is in your area, talk to the sitter about their expectations in regards to pay before taking them on; ask him or her what they normally charge and use it as a starting point for negotiations. (Be careful not to pay too little if someone is new to childcare and doesn’t know the going rate. Once they find out that you are under-paying them, they may find other kids to watch instead.)

If you decide to use a babysitter matchmaking service, sitters will typically post their experience level as well as their expected pay rate. You will then know just what the babysitter is asking for before you even meet them.

Remember that if you find a babysitter whose services you are happy with, you should pay them well, no matter what pay rate you originally came to an agreement on.

Keep in mind that a good babysitter can be very hard to find; so you may want to pay an exceptional sitter more than the going rate in your neighborhood. You can then ensure that the sitter will view your requests as a priority and you will have a good chance of being able to hire them when you really need a sitter.

Interview Tips For Nanny Jobs

A nanny is a full time babysitter in which you usually live in the home of your employer. This job is often referred to as an au pair position. The families that advertise nanny jobs will require a professional application complete with a resume and references. They will hold an interview with you when your application meets with their approval. In order to get the job, you do need to be prepared for this interview.

A good curriculum vitae for a position as a nanny should be neat and professional to show that this is how you will act in the position. You should include all the pertinent details, but keep the information factual and concise without going into great detail. If the potential employer has any questions about any aspect of your resume, he/she will ask about this in the interview. You also need to give details of your personality that will appeal to the parents, but you can include this in your cover letter. In the case of applying for these jobs, most employers prefer a handwritten letter rather than a typed one.

You need to have at least two references for a job as a nanny one that will attest to your professional skills and one that will attest to your character and personal skills. Along with providing the names of your references on your resume, you should have actual letters of reference from these people that you take with you to the interview. You do need to ensure that the addresses and contact information of your references are up to date because they will be checked.

The first impression an employer has of you can make or break the interview before it starts. Even though you will probably be dressed in jeans during the job as a nanny, you should look professional at the interview. Do not wear too much makeup of jewellery because this may give the parents the impression that you prefer to spend time making sure you look just right rather than looking after their children. You do need to look neat and tidy and ready to take on the job.

It is essential to show respect during the interviewing process, even if you find that the employers are rude and impatient. You can always decline the job offer if you find that things are not to your expectations. Speak clearly and think before you answer the questions they pose to you. Even when a question can be answered with yes or no, try to elaborate with examples or details from your previous employment to demonstrate that you understand the question and can perform the tasks required.

There is no doubt you will have to elaborate on your skills as a nanny and your ability to prepare meals. You should have first aid training to prepare you in how you should act if accidents do occur while you are on the job. You may or may not have to perform household chores but you should never state in your application that you don’t feel that these duties are part of the job.

Think twice before you just hire the girl down the road to watch your kids. There are some advantages to having a really good babysitter. Here are the top five advantages to hiring a good sitter.

1. Your Kids Will Have More Fun. If the teenager down the road spends 90% of the time at your home text messaging her boyfriend and the other 10% watching T.V, how much fun is that for your kids? A good babysitter will play with the kids, take walks, play games and really entertain them. (I don’t even think mine has ever tried to turn on the T.V.)

2. Complimentary Care. Kids benefit from being exposed to different experiences. Some play sports or read books with the kids. My babysitter is more creative and helps them do arts and crafts that I would never think of doing!

3. A Clean House Ever come home to a house cleaner than you left it? A good babysitter may not only clean up after your kids, but also spruce up things a bit once the kids are all in bed.

4. Safety. A good babysitter is responsible. If something happens to your child when you are gone, you need to know that this person will know exactly what to do.

5. You Will Be More Willing To Go Out. When you are nervous about a sitter, you won’t ever want to go out or you will hire one only when absolutely necessary. But if the kids have a good time, the house isn’t destroyed, and you feel your kids are safe, you will be more willing to go out and have a good time…and happy parents make better parents any day.

A babysitter is important to have if your work schedule doesn’t line up with your child’s school schedule, you’ll be away for periods of time, or you just want the occasional night without the kids. However, finding a good babysitter that you can trust can be a lot more complicated. With reports of neglectful or abusive babysitters on the rise, you want to make sure that you’re hiring the right person. Here are six things to look for in your next babysitter.

1. A prospective sitter should be willing to interview, either in person or one the phone, and will be willing to provide quality references. If your sitter can’t point to at least a few satisfied customers, you may need to be concerned.

2. A sitter should be experienced, capable of telling you up front about his or her fee schedule, and capable of answering questions clearly and effectively. Emergency training is a plus, but remember to ask your prospective babysitter to describe that training. Different courses give different qualifications.

3. Your sitter should be up front about his or her schedule and how it will interact with yours. You need to know what kind of availability you’re looking at, so you’ll be able to plan your absences, and see whether or not this sitter is a good fit. Sometimes a perfectly good babysitter just isn’t available when you need him or her to be.

4. Sitters should be listed on a site such as sittercity.com or care.com, directories of babysitters who are serious about the work. While it may be tempting to hire the neighbor’s teenager for the job, you probably want more out of your sitter than they can provide.

5. A good babysitter should interact with your children well. Arrange a meeting between the kids and the sitter and see how your children respond, how the sitter treats them, and how you feel about the situation. If you’re not comfortable, you may not want to go with this particular sitter. Sometimes a gut feeling is the best thing to go on.

6. Your sitter should be available regularly, so that you won’t need to switch. Your children will feel happier if they have the same babysitter every time, and you’ll be able to avoid interruptions to your schedule by hiring someone with reliable availability. Make sure that you aren’t hiring someone who’ll just be a one-off.

It is important to all parents and caregivers who have young children to be able to take a break away from the children and go out together. I can remember the first time we got a baby sitter for our little baby girl. We went somewhere close in case we needed to rush home. We weren’t needed, but the anticipation of all that could go wrong was with us. We have five daughters and the nice thing is it got easier with each child for us to leave and have a fun night out together without bringing the baby with us in our minds and exclusively in our conversations. We knew we had a babysitter who took good care of our children.

There are some things that can and must be done which will relieve your minds about leaving your children with others and will help them to be the best sitter possible for your child.

Always have an informational interview with the prospective sitter before hiring them. Even if you know their parents or other children they have cared for take time to get to know them yourself to see if they will be a good fit for your children. Find out the sitters age, interests, and experience and get references to check later. Share with them your expectations of what you look for in a baby sitter. (Only tending the children or also tidying up the house and in some cases doing the dishes after the children are in bed etc.).

After you have hired a new babysitter allow 30 minutes before you need to leave the house to take time to do the following:

*Tour your home
*Show her where everything is she’ll need during the time she is tending.
*Discuss your house rules and expectations. Let her know there are some things she is NEVER to do….
*Never allow strangers into the house. This means you never have repairmen or anyone else scheduled to come to your home when you aren’t there.
*Never tell a caller that you are the babysitter home alone with the children. They are to take a message and tell the person calling that you will return their call when you can.
*Never go outside to investigate suspicious noises or activities. Turn on outside lights and CALL THE POLICE. Be sure that all the doors and windows are locked. (Doors and windows should be locked as soon as you leave).

How to Choose a Video Camera

There are many factors in choosing a video camera, and we’ll be highlighting a few options worth considering before making a purchase. First, you should answer the question: why do you want to record video? Here are a few reasons many people have purchased video cameras.

Prevent theft (from others and employees): The simple presence of a video camera can deter thieves and encourage a more overall honest work place when everyone knows their actions may be recorded and thus be reviewed at a later time. In some instances, a fake video camera will give the idea that video is being recorded and heighten security. Fake video cameras are economical and can be quickly installed without extra wires or cables to run. Some even have blinking red lights or pan the area when motion is detected.

For fun: There’s no reason a camera can’t be set up for family gatherings, picnics, or holidays in order to try and capture some of the best moments! Use motion detection to record the action OR set up an Internet accessible camera and allow family from around the world to partake in the fun. Don’t forget the ability to video chat too!

Security: For years businesses have used video cameras to record and monitor activities. You can replicate this model anywhere: small business, home, apartment, condo, RV, garage, work shed, backyard, or wherever you need an extra eye.

Keep an eye on children or babysitters (aka: the nanny cam): Let’s face it, kids are important, and there’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to help protect them. Hidden cameras can keep an eye on babysitters or nannies, while a baby monitor allows you to visually check on your child without interrupting their sleep (all while you watch a movie or lie in bed).

Surveillance: Many private investigators use body worn cameras for surveillance and evidence gathering. Now, you can do your own investigative work or use video for evidence gathering. Be sure to check local laws before recording.

Check on elderly: Many people want to know their parents or grandparents are doing well or being taken care of. Depending on the situation, there are Internet accessible cameras so you can remotely check on loved ones still living at home, or for those worried about caregivers in a retirement or assisted living facility, a simple motion activated hidden camera can do quite well. These record video for later retrieval so that one can view what caregivers are doing (or not doing).

Animal/Pet Cameras: Some people like to know all is well at home with a remote camera. A wireless camera can be used to check on “Fido” in his kennel (either remotely or from the house), or some people have cleverly set ones up in birdhouses to watch the building of a nest and hatching of baby birds. These are great ways to get kids involved in science and an educational tool by itself.

Based upon the above decision, this should help you narrow down when and where you’ll need to record video. Do consider the lighting for those areas at all times of day and night. A camera can be placed indoor, outdoor, on your body, and be used during the day, night, or in low light conditions. Choose a camera that is appropriate for your needs (e.g. night vision, low light, or a setup that switches from a color by day to an infrared camera at night).

Last, you’ll want to decide HOW to retrieve the video. The following are options to consider:

-simple hard wire from the camera to a recording device (e.g. VCR, digital video recorder, computer, etc.)
-wireless camera which transmits the image to a receiver, then plugs into a monitor or recorder
-the camera records video locally (inside camera or unit) to built in memory, meaning you would need to retrieve the entire device to review the video
-the camera records locally to a removable SD or microSD memory card, meaning you could leave the device (if it’s a hidden camera) where it is, but remove the memory card and take this back to a computer to review the video
-access via internet: many video cameras can be accessible from any internet enabled computer, thus allowing one to view in real time what’s happening. Additionally, some of these cameras can be configured to record and store video for later viewing
-records to a computer / hard drive: many find it more economical to use their computer system to record the video from a camera thus reducing the need for other recorders. Keep in mind that your computer will need to be powered on and running while recording any video.
