It’s hard to find good help these days. Nowhere is this truer than in the area of finding childcare. It’s difficult enough as it is to leave your children in the care of a stranger. But with the news these days constantly alerting the public to stories about caregivers who abuse their charges, it’s never been scarier to have to entrust your precious little ones to someone that you know practically nothing about. Even if you think you’ve found quality help, it’s always better to be safe than sorry, especially when the welfare of your children is in question. A good way to make sure that your kids are safe with their babysitter is to install hidden nanny cams in your home.

While this may seem like a drastic measure to some, it’s actually quite simple to do. Hidden nanny cams have become a popular way to keep tabs on your babysitter and your children. They can come disguised as common household items, such as clocks, toys, or even tissue boxes. You can also choose models that are simply small and unobtrusive, so that you don’t have to try and figure out what disguise would be best for your camera to wear in each particular room.

Viewing the footage can be easy. You can hook up your VCR to your surveillance system, and it will record all of the footage it receives. You can record it and view it later. Some systems even stream the video to a private website, so that you can check the feed at random and get real-time updates on how your kids are doing with their new sitter. You can use one main camera or buy a few hidden nanny cams and buy a quad to split your view so that you can see the feeds on up to four cameras at once.

Buying hidden nanny cams for your home might strike you as a strange idea at first, but more and more parents are coming to see this as a necessity, and not a luxury. As it’s getting harder and harder to keep your children safe, parents are jumping at every tool that can help them to protect their children as much as possible from even a hint of harm. These cameras may not be able to protect your kids from every danger they face, but it’ll at least help to make sure that the caregiver you’ve hired is giving them quality care.

2. Pick one or two of the above listed services and sign up for a free trial.

Nanny care is in an important business. Nanny care goes above and beyond regular babysitting, and for this reason a nanny has to be equipped with skills that are above and beyond. Although you are not the parent of the children that you are caring for, you will still have a large impact on their development because you will be an important person in their life. Because of this, you want to make sure that your interactions with the children you are caretaking are positive ones that are going to promote positive and healthy emotional growth in the children. A nanny that is more knowledgeable about these kinds of topics will not only create better nanny care with happier children, but an employee that is more attractive to a family.

What is attachment?

An attachment is a bond between two people. Attachment theory was developed in 1969 by a psychologist named John Bowlby who believed that the attachments that humans make in the beginning of their lives will impact the kind of person they will become later in life. These interactions that are experienced in early life will impact everything about who we are, down to our personality and our relationships. With that information, you can truly understand how important a positive attachment can be. As a nanny you are one of the primary caregivers to a child and therefore you will have a strong impact on their future self.

How can I, as a nanny, create a positive attachment?

This is an important question. With Bowlby’s theory, you want to strive to create what he calls a secure attachment. There are a few factors that can help create this with a child. The child needs to feel that the caregiver is a safe person and someone they can go to for comfort and affection when they need it. At the same time, this person is not smothering. They allow the child to explore the world and make mistakes at times, but when the child needs comforting, this person is there. Normal reactions in the child would be that the child wants to be near the caregiver, but is not overly dependant on him or her. Basically this involves being a reliable, loving figure in the child’s life, but not being too overprotective or overbearing. It is normal for a child to want to explore the world and learn about it. At times, the world can be a scary and unpleasant place and that’s when the child will seek solace in a parent or nanny.

You don’t have to be an expert in psychology to be a great nanny. However, it can enhance your skills as a caregiver to learn about some of the theories out there that involve children and development. If you have chosen to begin a career in nanny care, you undoubtedly have a passion for children. Brushing up on your education about children can do wonders for your skills and for your career.

Tips on having family members as caregivers from Sheila Lirio Marcelo, Founder and CEO of Care.com. “When Granny is Nanny. Nearly 50% of families rely on relatives to care for their loved ones but what happens when you and your mom don’t see eye to eye on childcare issues? Here’s some advice to consider. First, be clear about “your rules.” You feel strongly about healthy snacking but your mom is constantly baking treats for the kids. With relatives, it’s important to clarify your expectation up front. Being honest and open will help your relatives understand why you’re asking for certain things. Second, don’t overstep boundaries. Respect your family members personal time. You know your sister will always love you and forgive you when you arrive ten minutes late but if you expect her to adhere to your wishes and rules then you need to do the same by keeping your word. Third, don’t sweat the small stuff. There may be small things that irritate you but what’s more important to you at the end of the day- dirty dishes or the fact that your kids are happy and well cared for?”

Most families are busy. Both mother and father have work to pay the bills and to provide for the family. For this reason, most families have to turn to a child care service to take care of their precious children while they work.

But it can be hard in deciding which child care service to enroll your child. You want to pick out one that will be suitable for your child and one that the child will like, yet you trust.

Your first step in choosing a child care service is to actually go and see the place in person. You should at first be aware of the environment itself. Is the place clean? If you can, try to go during the time meals would be prepared. Is that area clean? What about the area in which the children nap? Is it also clean?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. For instance, is the child care providers trained? Do
they have any actual qualifications in child care? What about first aid? Does someone there know CPR and basic first aid techniques? Are there any health polices they have to meet? Do they have any certificates from the local health department?

If your child is still in diapers, will this be a problem? At what age does a child need to be toilet trained? (Your child will become older you know).

Then there are questions you need to know regarding their own polices.

—Their hours of operation. Can those hours ever be extended?

—Attendance question. What do you do if your child is going to be absent?

—Are they strict about who is allowed to take the child home? This is a very
important question to ask.

Finally, you do need to discuss price and price options. If your schedule is one that changes from week to week, you should see if the price options can change accordingly as well (if your child doesn’t attend as often one week).

If you like the answers to the questions you asked and you like the looks of the child care service as well as the caregivers themselves, you should see if you and child could spend a day at the center for free. This is a great chance for your child to become acquainted with the center, the routine of the center and at the same time give your child the comfort of your presence. This also gives you a better chance to watch the center in full working mode.

If the day goes well and you decide to enroll your child, talk enthusiastically about the center with your child. Allow your child to help in labeling his/her things to take to the child care center with him/her. Be sure not to take his/her most favorite toys in case they get damaged. Do make sure to always take an extra change of clothes (accidents can happen).

Once that first day arrives, be sure to have a few minutes to get your child settled before leaving for the day. Allow the child to begin the day with the other students. Then when he/she looks comfortable tell him/her that you have to go to work now, but you will be back shortly. Then actually leave. Don’t be slow about leaving or the child will sense that you are nervous and this can cause the child to become nervous.

Remember once you leave your child, to always make sure you have your cell phone so that the child care service can always get you in case an emergency should arise.

Also don’t forget to make spot checks of the child care service when you have no appointment or when it isn’t departure time. Do this on a continued basis to make sure that the child care service continues to run smoothly and is continuing to care for your child as it should.

As parents, you probably don’t love the idea of leaving your child in the hands of caregivers, no matter how great the child care service is. But it may be a necessity. If you follow these tips, maybe you will find a child care service that will at least make you feel a little bit more comfortable in your choice.

Choosing And Making Use Of Nannies

Nannies have been around for many years. In times long gone people would use their family or community members to watch their children. These days it is easy to get someone to care for your little one and, often, you can hire a range of them simply by picking up the phone.

Caregivers can be used to take care of children while the parents are at work. They can also be hired to watch children on those nights when the parents decide to go out for the evening. The type of caregiver that you hire will depend entirely on your needs and the amount of work that you expect them to do.

If you are in need of a caregiver on a long term basis then you will want to hire a permanent employee. These employees will usually look after your child’s needs throughout the day. These employees might run errands for you during the day and then make sure that your child gets home from school and completes his or her homework.

If you only need a caregiver to look after your child for a few hours a week then you can hire them by the hour. The rates differ according to the agency that you make use of but they usually charge a certain amount until the early hours of the morning. If you want to get out of the house for a few hours a week then you can use their services to ensure that your children are safe while you are not at home.

These employees provide a range of services depending on your needs and the reasons you have hired them. The services range from driving your children to school and to their after school activities to making sure that they have completed all of their homework. If you are going to hire them for a range of services then you will have to pay them accordingly.

Choosing your employee is not always easy. Since they will be caring for your children you will need to make sure that you can trust them and that they will be able to do the job well. Getting references from your employees previous employers will give you a better idea of what they can offer you and your family.

It is always best to see how your new employee and your child get on before you make the placement permanent. If there are any problems then you will need to sort them out before you hire them. The problem might be minor but if they are more serious then you might want to choose another employee to fill the position.

The easiest way to employ a caregiver is to go through an agency. Agencies usually screen their employees and many of them will try and place the appropriate caregiver in your home by analyzing your needs. In order to begin the hiring process you will need to contact the agency and inform them that you are looking to hire.

Nanny sites have become popular among many North American families that are looking for an easy way to find a nanny or a babysitter for hire. Can these websites replace the traditional nannies agencies and truly provide a secured and reliable way to find a good nanny? What should parents be aware of when using the services of online caregiver’s placement agencies?

When searching for nannies many families and individuals don’t really know a foolproof approach for getting a child minder who can meet their needs. Some search relevant forums and computer message boards while some enlist the services of a nanny matching firm. The most important aspect of hiring a nanny is person’s reliability. No parent would agree allowing a dishonest person to take care of his children while he is away from home.

The greatest advantage nanny sites have is accessibility. Anyone can find on the internet dozens of local and nationwide nannies and babysitters sites that offer families to search and find a local caregivers for hire. The question is – do online nannies sites pre-screen candidates before allowing them to offer their services online? After all, by the nanny resume parents can easily figure out if the person professional experience and background fit their own needs. But how can they know which nanny is trustworthy and which is not?

There are many different nanny websites out there – some of them are specific to cities and states, others are specific to countries. No matter which website parents choose to help them finding a nanny, the most important thing to check is the amount of efforts these sites invest in checking the candidate’s background, or alternatively – do they provide any tools to run an online nanny background check. These services provides the ability to check the following person’s records – child abuse, criminal, driving and of course social security records.

The conclusion is that nanny sites can truly help families in finding a good nanny as long as they provide the right services and tools to check the nannies or sitters background. On top of that, top caregivers websites also provide tools that can help families preparing a good nanny employment contract which includes setting the right nannies or babysitters going rates for the job.

Choosing A Child Care Provider

Choosing the right caretaker for your child can be a challenge. It is also among the most important tasks you will ever undertake.

As a parent, you know that you play the most important role in the life of your child, but the relationship that arises between the child and their caregivers will affect the self image of a child, as well as their security and their overall growth.

It is as important to the parent as it is to the child to know that the caregiver gives their child warmth, responsive care, and feelings of security and well being.

When choosing child care, it is important to note the most often, a day care center will be far superior to the single babysitter who cares for a child in the home. Day care centers can provide a better caregiver to child ratio, are licensed by the state in which they operate and very often have an outstanding curriculum that will offer your child excellent growth potential and quality learning experiences.

Among the questions that you will want to ask of potential caregivers for your child, whether you are selecting a single care provider in your home or a licensed day care center are these:
What kind of education and experience in childcare does the prospect bring with them?–Most child care experts believe that ongoing training and experience in childcare, as well as safety and first aid training are imperative when caring for any child.

How many children does the caregiver or facility handle and what is the child to caregiver ratio?-A large number of children per caregiver means that your child will not receive the individual attention that they need and deserve.

Does the caregiver or day care center plan activities through the day for attending children? There should be structure in a childcare center that provides for the learning and development of the child. Whether a day care center or an individual provider, the child should be given new experiences and planned age-appropriate activities to help them to grow.

Are parents permitted to visit the child care center?

If you are required to make an appointment to visit the child care center or the childcare giver during the day, then do so, but it’s also not a bad idea to pop in unannounced and ask to view the childcare center in action. Once your child is enrolled in the daycare or childcare center, an unannounced visit is not at all out of the question and should be welcomed by the staff. Things to look for when you visit the child care center unannounced are high levels of noise, children who are crying or obviously unhappy, children who are obviously aimless and not engaged in play activities.

Once you have reviewed the daycare center or childcare centers you are considering, it’s far easier to make a short list. One thing that we often fail to do is to take into account our children’s perception of the caregivers and the child care center. Ask your child what they think and feel about the places they visit with you. Taking their opinion into account will help your child to feel that you care about their feelings and that you want them to be comfortable.
