If you travel regularly or have children or pets, home surveillance cameras are a great way to monitor the safety of your home and loved ones from anywhere at any time of the day.

Do individuals such as babysitters, house cleaners and dog walkers have access to your home when you’re not there? Surveillance camerasenable you to keep an eye on them by remotely viewing any room in your home via a computer with internet access. If children or elderly family members are often home alone, surveillance cameras can give them the safety and peace of mind of knowing who is at the front door before they open it. Do you have a vacation home? A surveillance system lets you regularly check in on that home by computer.

A video surveillance system is relatively easy to install and highly customizable and expandable. As your needs change, most systems are easy to reconfigure, because there is no complex wiring involved. One of the best features of a video surveillance system is deterrence-just the mere presence of a visible camera on the outside of your home can make potential thieves think twice about breaking in.

A “nanny cam” is another type of home surveillance camera used for the purpose of monitoring individuals who care for your children in your home. No matter how carefully you screen a caregiver, it’s never possible to be completely certain that the individual you have hired will provide a safe, nurturing environment for your child. Installing one or more nanny cams throughout your home can help eliminate the worry that parents feel when they entrust the care and safety of their children to others.

Most systems today are wireless and can be easily hidden in a variety of inconspicuous areas in your home, such as plants or next to items on a high shelf. Prices vary according to the simplicity or complexity of the system you choose. All systems offer remote internet access via computer and even a smart phone, giving you the ability to check in on your children at any time.

Nanny cams also give you the ability to monitor other individuals who have access to your home, such as house cleaners, service people or house sitters, or just for general home security purposes. Most important of all, a nanny cam can provide the confidence and peace of mind that your children are being cared for properly when you are not at home.

So you’re ready to go on vacation. After months of planning, you’ve picked your destination or destinations, and you have all your reservations in place. This is going to be the best vacation ever. But can you say the same for your four-legged friend?

Now I know some people bring their dog along with them on vacation, but in many situations, this is either NOT an option or it just isn’t the BEST option for your dog or your family. So what ARE you going to do with Fido while you’re away? In this article I will let you know just what your options are so you can take the first step toward choosing the best care for your dog while you’re away.

There are basically three options to consider when deciding who will take care of your dog while you’re gone: a house sitter, a pet sitter or a kennel. So grab a cup of coffee, and let’s look at the pros and cons of each type of care.

A house sitter is someone who will stay at your house while you’re gone. They will not only take care of your pets, but will take care of your house and property. This is probably the best option if you’re going to be away for a long period of time, or if you have several animals. If you plan to be away for several weeks, a house sitter can give you peace of mind that someone will be at your home to deter burglars, and to respond to any emergency that might arise. If you have several animals, or several different types of animals, you can choose a house sitter who is experienced in caring for the needs of all of your animals. At the same time, your pets and other animals will be the most comfortable, because their routines will stay the same over the entire time you are gone. The downside of this option is that it is likely the most expensive option. So unless you have several animals or you have a friend who is willing to move into your house while you’re gone, this option may not be the best solution for you.

If a house sitter doesn’t meet your needs, next you might consider a pet sitter. Like a house sitter, most pet sitters come to your home to care for your dog, so he doesn’t have to leave the comfort of his own surroundings. Unlike the house sitter, however, the pet sitter won’t stay overnight. Still, for many dogs, the pet sitter is the next best thing to a house sitter. This type of pet sitter usually comes to your home a couple times a day, and will play with your dog or take him for a walk in addition to feeding and caring for him. Since the pet sitter doesn’t stay, the down side is that your dog will be alone for many hours and through the night. If your dog is anxious or destructive when no one is in the house, this may not be your best option, despite its advantages.

Another option that is growing in popularity is pet sitters who bring dogs into their own home. This can be a nice compromise for the dog that is unable to handle the time alone between pet sitter visits at your home. With this option, the pet sitter usually only takes a few dogs at a time, so as to not trigger being considered a commercial kennel. The upside is that your dog will get a lot of individual attention, with less time left alone than with a pet sitter who comes to your house. The downside is that the more popular sitters will fill up quickly, and it may be difficult to schedule this type of sitter over holidays or with short notice.

If you have gotten to this point and haven’t seen an option that will work for you and your dog, then taking your dog to stay at a commercial kennel is going to be the choice for you. Kennels come in all varieties, and they definitely are not one size fits all. Watch for my next article, where I’ll provide tips to help you choose the perfect kennel for your dog.

Hiring a Live-In Nanny

Pay for nannies increased slightly during last year according to industry bodies. The rise is driven by more women going back to work or cutting short maternity leave during the recession. As they do, many are looking to employ a live in nanny to take care of their children. However, if you make this decision, it pays to make sure you make the right choice.

Turning over care of children to another person – even for a short period of time – can be an emotional step. In the case of a live in nanny it’s even more important. This is will be more than just an employer/employee relationship: you are inviting someone into your home; someone who, if everything goes well, will become an extra member of the family. For this reason you should be extra careful when making the choice.

Some people choose to conduct the search themselves. If this is the case make sure you do a thorough background check, for criminal and child abuse clearance. Request at least two previous references and check these thoroughly.

Alternatively, you might want to use an agency. Professional bodies such as these conduct their own research and can provide a certain amount of peace of mind. However, when choosing the agency you should still be thorough. Find out how they select their staff and what guarantees they offer. A good organisation will charge significant sums for this service, so it pays to be picky.

Once you have made your choice it’s time to think about pay. With a live in nanny arrangements can be complicated. Not only do they generally receive competitive weekly pay but they also get free room and board. You will need to make sure there is a separate bedroom with bathroom available as well as making arrangements for use of the car.

Above all it’s important to be welcoming. You are recruiting an extra member of the family here. The nanny should be invited on family outings and all events. However, at the same time you should set boundaries. Agree set working hours in advance. If you require more than this then you will have to pay extra. Don’t expect them to be on call 24 hours a day.

Bringing in a live in nanny can be a huge step. Because she or he will become an extra member of the family you make your choice on all sorts of different grounds: experience and professionalism, but also character and personality. However, if you get the early stages right, it can be extremely useful for you and your family.

A wireless CCTV system can be a very inexpensive way to buy peace of mind. It can keep an eye on your kids when you’re at work or watch your house when you’re out of town. A wireless CCTV system can be something as simple as a Nanny cam in your baby’s room or as complicated as five cameras mounted at strategic places around your home and yard. In addition to being inexpensive, wireless CCTV systems are easy to install. In fact, if you choose battery operated CCTV cameras, you can place them just about anywhere.

How do you choose a wireless CCTV camera system?

Here are five things to look for that can help you buy the right CCTV camera system for your home and your needs.

1. Frames per second. This is very important because you can actually buy wireless CCTV cameras that record too many frames per second (FPS). For example, some will record 30 FPS, which is close to real time. However, you don’t really want to record every second of every day, as this requires way too much storage space. The fact is that 30 FPS just isn’t really necessary. Six FPS is usually enough for you to see what’s going on.

2. Color vs. black and white. The reason behind that is the fact that when you review video that has been shot in color, it’s just much easier to see what’s going on. Also, black and white video can look washed out and lack definition. However, black and white cameras can be better for outdoor wireless CCTV systems.

3. Resolution. Just why is this important? It’s because the better the resolution the better the picture – just like with your home TV. Some wireless home security systems offer only about 300 lines of resolution. The better ones deliver 500 lines. And exactly what occurs you choose the higher resolution? You will be able to better see what’s going on just as you do when watching high definition TV vs. standard definition.

4. Direct view or recorded video. This can be important as well. Direct view works well if you want to just watch what’s going on in your home in real time such as with a Nanny cam. However, if you want to be able to review the video at some later time or you want to use it as “evidence,” you will need a system that includes either a video tape recorder (VCR) or a digital video recorder (DVR).

5. Wireless vs. wired. Why are wireless CTV cameras a good idea? A wireless Home Security System is much easier to install, as there are no cables to run around inside walls or ceilings. And many are battery operated so you don’t to install them near an outlet – meaning you can place them just about anywhere in your house.

With so many different kinds of spy cameras and micro spy nanny cams to choose from, it can be a bit daunting to actually distinguish one nanny cam from another. So, in the service of public interest and safety, here’s a simple list that you can follow of all the various types of spy cameras which are on the market today.
Hidden Spy Nanny Cams

These are the most common types of spy cameras the people are usually looking for. Usually disguised like a simple everyday household or office item like a pen holder or a desktop calculator, hidden spy nanny cams usually have the camera lens (and sometimes the receiving device as well) built right into the item itself. Nobody will ever figure out that there’s an advanced nanny cam in the room watching and monitoring every move that’s taking place.
Internet IP Spy Nanny Cams

Internet IP spy nanny cams hook up to any computer – either desktop or laptop – and can transmit video images directly to your computer screen. What makes these types of nanny cameras so effective is that people can enjoy and experience peace of mind no matter where they are and no matter what they’re doing. In fact, there are internet IP spy nanny cams that are so powerful, they can transmit video surveillance to any computer – no matter where it is in the world.
Self-Contained Spy Cams

Much like hidden spy nanny cams, self-contained spy cams are nanny cameras which are contained or kept inside other objects. However, what makes self-contained spy cams so beneficial is that, for the most part, they do not require a VHS or other video recording device separate from the camera itself. Everything that’s needed for safe and reliable camera operation and recording is built directly into the unit itself – giving you a high-tech camera that blends into any home or office locale.
Wireless Spy Cams

With more and more electronic items becoming wireless, it was only a matter of time before spy cameras took their rightful place in the wireless parade. Wireless spy cams are incredibly easy to set-up and use, thus mitigating the overriding factor as to why people avoid purchasing wireless spy cams in the first place. And because wireless spy cams don’t have any wires, cords or cables to worry about, you can rest assured knowing that they’ll always be hiding in plain sight and always be on guard without anyone ever detecting them.
Micro Spy Nanny Cams

The smallest of the small, micro spy nanny cams takes big camera technology and puts it inside the smallest possible disguise. Usually, the lens of a micro spy nanny cam is no bigger than a pinhole, and the camera itself is but only a few millimeters across in size. However, these tiny spy cameras pack a big punch, as they usually possess an incredible viewing area that catches everything that’s taking place.
Body Worn Spy Nanny Cams

For covert recording and surveillance in a public or outdoor setting, nothing compares to the quality and reliability that body worn spy nanny cams can provide. These are cameras that you can take with you for all your spying needs, but they aren’t bulky and they won’t compromise your mission or your objective. Whether the camera is hidden in a stick of gum, or in an everyday looking pair of sunglasses, body worn spy nanny cams take your spying activities to the street.
CCTV & Bullet Spy Nanny Cams

For maximum protection and security for the home or office, many people turn towards CCTV & bullet spy nanny cams. These are tough, strong and durable nanny cameras that work in any weather or environmental condition. Full-color cameras which are capable of recording both during the day or night, CCTV & bullet spy nanny cams are perfect for those looking for the ultimate in home or office safety.

Fire Your Awful Babysitter

Are you still letting that awful babysitter watch your children? Just because a babysitter does not harm your children physically, does not mean that this is the best choice for watching your kids. In most cases, you can do better for your kids without spending more money.

Don’t think that you can find a good babysitter? Well, you would be surprised at how easy it can be.

My first choice is always a parent-swap. This just means that you and another parent work out a schedule for watching the children on alternating days so that you can both work or go out while the other takes their kids and then you switch.

The advantage to this type of arrangement is that you know this family and the kids. You not only have a friend to watch the kids, but you also have playmates for them while they are there so they do not end up being bored or ignored by a distracted or disengaged sitter.

Another great new option is to use the internet to find great local sitters. There are websites out there that do a great job of matching great babysitters with kids who need them. Parents can look through online profiles, read other parent reviews and even do background checks on the potential babysitters.

The advantage to this type of program is that for less than the price of a night out, you can have access to as many sitters as you would like, background checks and the peace of mind that your children are being cared for by a fabulous and qualified babysitter every time that you go away.

Tips on Choosing the Right Nanny

In today’s day and age of expensive living and competitive environment it is important for both the parents to be working. You get to see this scenario in most of the households. Rearing a child during these circumstances can be a hectic job. Hiring the right nanny can solve this problem for you. You will be spending as much time as you can afford, either towards the end of the day or the start of day, with your kids but during the rest of time you can be rest assured that they are well taken care of when you know that they are in caring hands of a nanny. Since this concerns your kids you should be highly careful while choosing a nanny. I have endeavored to highlight a few important tips you should be aware of while taking the decision on hiring a nanny.

Hire From A Renowned Agency

Making sure that you hire your nanny from the most well known and reputed nanny agency in your area will cut your job into half. The reputed nanny agencies usually take care of all the initial formalities involved in hiring a nanny. Starting from getting you a list of nannies to choose from to performing a through background check on the references and credentials of the nanny you choose, all this is taken care of by the agency itself. A background check is the most critical aspect of selecting the nanny. If there is any incident in the background which does not appeal to you it would be best to not hire her. Good nanny agencies perform a complete scrutiny, along with checking the police records, to ensure there are no glitches in the background of the person being selected as the nanny. A history of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, petty thefts are serious concerns for anyone hiring a nanny. Usually the nanny agencies perform all the background checks even before getting the nanny aboard their agency. You might have to pay a little extra to a renowned agency but the money you pay would guarantee you peace of mind.

Personally Interview The Nanny

It is important to conduct a personal interview of any nanny you are planning to hire. It makes sense to conduct the interview in the presence of your kids and any relative that you can get hold. If after the interview everyone feels positive about the nanny then its ok to hire the person, if there is any doubt or uneasiness in the minds of anyone then it is better not to hire the nanny. Human nature works on the basis of instinct, people have instinct to guide them when they are not completely sure of all the facts. Believe your instinct completely and also the instinct of your close ones before selecting the nanny. Some who has a great background record does not necessarily qualify as a good nanny. If your kids don’t feel any friendly vibes from the nanny during the interview make sure you reject the person. Kids surprisingly have a better instinct than adults when it comes to determining a truly friendly person. Give complete priority to your kid’s decision when it comes to a nanny.

Monitor the Nanny’s Performance

Like any good hirer it makes sense to monitor the performance of the new joined (into your family) for at least a period of a week. You can monitor the nanny performance on the basis of feedback given by your kids mainly; you can also get feedback from people who get to see the nanny’s behavior when you are not around like say your gardener, your cook, your maid or your neighbors. If the feedback stays negative over a week’s time you should consider replacing the nanny. Don’t come to any hasty conclusion unless it is a serious complaint; give the nanny at least a week before taking your decision. If there are any serious complaints against her by your kids and your nanny is not able to provide a convincing explanation for the same then consider firing her immediately.
